7、is Section of BS5173 was prepared under the direction of the Plastics and Rubber Standards Policy Committee. The basic test method is similar to that described in BS3G100-2.3.13, but the test described in this standard is more appropriate for hose assemblies. This test is a specialized test and shou
8、ld be carried out only at the specific request of the purchaser who should also specify the appropriate test fluid. NOTEThis Section of BS5173 does not specify the test pressure at which th
11、e tests are carried out or the minimum bend radius at which the test is to be performed. These details are specified in the appropriate hose product specification along with the period for which the test flame is to be applied and reference to grades of resistance to fire. 2 Normative references Thi

13、ations apply to this Section of BS5173 only when incorporated in it by updating or revision. 3 Apparatus 3.1 Test rig, capable of the following functions: a) mounting a hose assembly bent to its minimum bend radius, as given in the relevant hose product specification; b) maintaining a constant press
14、ure equal to the maximum working pressure of the hose as specified in the relevant hose product specification; c) with one end of the hose assembly blanked, vibrating the blanked end with an amplitude of 1.25mm and a frequency of50Hz. 3.2 Burner, calibrated in accordance with AppendixE of BS3G100-2.
15、3.13:1973 and capable of producing the flame conditions specified in AppendixA of BS3G100-2.3.13:1973. 4 Test pieces Two test assemblies with end fittings attached shall be tested. Each test assembly shall be of a length that ensures that when mounted in the rest rig the hose is bent at the minimum
16、bend radius as stated in the relevant hose product specification. 5 Conditioning No test shall be carried out within24h of manufacture. The test assemblies shall be conditioned for at least3h at standard laboratory temperature as specified in BS903-A35:1985, before testing. NOTEThe3h conditioning pe
17、riod may form part of the24h period after manufacture. 6 Procedure 6.1 General Blank one end of the assembly and mount on the test rig so that it is bent at the minimum bend radius as given in the relevant hose product specification. Sleeves for the end fittings, if normally fitted as part of the ho
18、se assembly, shall be in position during the test. Fill the hose assembly with the test fluid (see foreword). Vibrate the blanked end throughout the test at a frequency of50Hz and an amplitude of 1.25mm. Subject the hose assembly to a constant pressure equal to the maximum working pressure of the ho
19、se assembly as given in the relevant hose product specification and apply the flames as described in6.2 and6.3 whilst examining closely for leaks. Continue applying the flames until a leakage or failure occurs or until the minimum time to failure as specified in the relevant hose product specificati
20、on has been exceeded. 6.2 Details of flame applied to hose Place the nozzle of the burner50mm2mm from the surface of the hose, approximately equidistant from each end with the flame directed radially onto the outer periphery of the hose. 6.3 Details of flame applied to end fitting Position the nozzl
21、e of the burner 50mm 2mm from the surface of the hose with the flame directed radially on the outside of the bend and onto the junction of the hose and the vibrated end fitting. Repeat tests described in6.1 to6.3 on a second assembly. 7 Test report The test report shall include the following informa
22、tion. a) A reference to this method of test, i.e.BS5173-103.13. b) A full description of the hose and hose assembly and its origin. c) The dimensions of the test piece. d) The test pressure. e) The test fluid used. f) The minimum bend radius. g) If applicable, the time at which the hose assembly per
