The remainder of the1976and1977editions of BS5173 is to be revised and as each of the tests is revised it is intended to issue it as a separate Part or Section of BS5173, as described in BS5173-100. 11、tion of BS5173 provides a means of comparing the performance of hoses/hose assemblies after the hoses/hose assemblies are exposed to particular service conditions. It does not attempt to simulate any effect which the contents of the hose may have on the hose at that temperature, that effect is prefe
、rably assessed through trials using the complete equipment. It is to measure the effect of temperature on the whole hose construction and not just on the vulcanizates in isolation. NOTE 1It is a prerequisite to this specification that the designer of the equipment has information concerning the maxi
、mum temperature which is likely to be encountered in service and the period of time for which the equipment functions at that temperature. NOTE 2The relationship of test sample length to hose bore and minimum specified bend radius and the capacity of the temperature controlled chambers may be restri
、cting factors and for this reason flexibility (bend tests) should be limited to hoses up to and including40mm nominal bore unless it is essential for proving the suitability of larger hoses for their end use. 1 Scope This Section of BS5173 describes the method by which a sample of rubber hose is exp
、osed to temperatures in excess of the prevailing normal atmospheric temperatures but within the upper temperature limit specified in the relevant hose product specification, after which it is subjected to physical tests to establish the extent of deterioration. NOTEThe titles of the publications ref
、erred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Apparatus The temperature controlled chamber shall be a normal oven complying with 3.2.2 of BS903-A19:1986. 3 Test samples The test samples shall be of sufficient length to provide all the test pieces required to perform all the produc
、t tests listed in the hose product specification. NOTEThe test samples should be of sufficient length to provide test pieces necessary for any additional tests required by the designer. 4 Procedure 4.1 Place the test pieces in the oven preheated to the test temperature. The test temperature shall be
、 the maximum service temperature defined by the equipment designer. The test pieces shall be stationary, free from strain, freely exposed to air on all sides and not exposed to light. 4.2 Maintain the test temperature for the period of time specified by the equipment designer. 4.3 On completion of t
、he heating period, remove the test pieces from the oven and condition them for notless than16h and not more than6days in a strain-free condition and in accordance with the details of the atmosphere given in the appropriate test method for the particular property being studied. 4.4 Prepare the test p
、ieces in accordance with the relevant test method. 4.5 Carry out the tests and record the results. 5 Expression of results The results shall be expressed in accordance with the relevant specifications for the property tests. 6 Test report The test report shall include the following information: a) t
、he number of the British Standard to which the hose was manufactured; b) details of any marking on the hose; c) the hose type and nominal bore sizes; d) details of the construction, including the type of reinforcement; e) the number of this British Standard, i.e.BS5173-106.2:1990; f) the test temper
