3、nd specifies general requirements for a range of patient trolleys. The following British Standards have been withdrawn and are superseded by this standard: BS 1962 Patients trolleys (fixed top) for indoor use in hosp ita I s BS 2057 Patients trolleys (tilting top) for indoor use in hospitals BS 2563

4、 Stretcher trolleys (without top) for indoor use in hospitals In recent years the design of patient trolleys has incorporated various facilities including head end tilting controls, reverse tilt, transfer and radio-translucent tops, side rails, foot rests and other attachments. These modifications a

5、re continuing in the light of changing techniques in patient care. Design features are not covered in detail by this standard, except where limitations are necessary for dimensional and safety Figures Page 1. It is, however, necessary to specify the basic require- ments of patient trolleys, such as their overall dimensions, which have to be considered in relation to the doors and lifts, etc., of the hospital buildings. Dimensional modi- ficatio

8、ns have consequently been necessary, and the standard now includes a recommendation for buffering the patient trolley to protect the fabric of the building. To facilitate the discharge of static electricity, it is essential that the equipment be electrically conductive throughout and that the patien

9、t trolley be fitted with castors having antistatic tyres. The top is also required to be free from any insulating coating or finish, and the accessory fittings are required to be attached in such a way as to maintain metal contact with the framework. Scope This British Standard specifies materials, dimensions and constructional and electrical safety requirements for patient trolleys,

11、 which may be supplied in four basic forms: with fixed top (see figure 1) with tilting top without top (for stretcher carrying) (see figure 3) with sliding top (for patient transfer) (see figure 4) At the option of the purchaser, patient trolleys may also be supplied with: (a) a fixed cradle or supp

12、ort to hold a 3Glitre, 680 litre or 1360 litre oxygen cylinder; (b) a detachable pole for carrying infusion containers; (c) a fixed tray for carrying case notes, instruments, suction apparatus, etc.; (d) safety sides; (e) a foot-rest/head-rest; (f) a control for tilt (head down); (9) an adjustable b

13、ackrest; (h) a radio-translucent top with provision for cassette; (i) a mattress pad. Information that should be supplied by the purchaser with an enquiry or order is given in appendix A. 2. References The titles of the standards publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside bac

14、k cover. 3. Materials 3.1 Framework. The framework shall be either of welded steel tubing that complies with the requirements of grade 11, finish semi-bright, as specified in section two of BS 1775: 1964, or of any other suitable material of at least equivalent performance. The tube for the upright

15、members shall be not less than 30.0 mm in outside diameter and not less than 1.6 mm in thickness. The tube for the longitudinal members shall be not less than 25 mm in outside diameter and not less than 1.6 mm in thickness. If stainless steel is used it shall be of at least equivalent performance an

16、d shall comply with the requirements of grade 1 as specified in part 2 of BS 3014: 1958. 3.2 Top. The top, where provided, may be of zinc coated steel sheet in accordance with BS 2989, class 2A. not less than 0.9 mm in thickness, of stainless steel sheet in accordance with BS 1449: Part 2, grade 302

17、S25 or 304S15, not less than 0.7 mm in thickness, or of radio-translucent material of equivalent mechanical strength. 3.3 Push bars. Push bars, where provided, shall be of stainless steel tube complying with the requirements of grade 1, as specified in part two of BS 3014: 1958. 3.4 Sockets for pole

18、s. The socket for the pole shall be of steel or stainless steel of the types specified in 3.1 and shall be of 14 mm minimum internal diameter and a minimum length of 75 mm. 3.5 Pole for infusion containers. The pole for carrying infusion containers shall be of 12 + 1 .O - O mm diameter bright drawn

19、stainless steel rod in accordance with BS 970: Part 4, grade 302S25 or 304S15. The hooks shall be of 8 mm diameter, of the same steel. The pole shall com- ply with the requirements of BS 3619. 3.6 Safety sides. The side rails should preferably be of stainless steel tube of 16 mm minimum diameter and

20、 1.6 mm thickness complying with the requirements of grade 1, as specified in part 2 of BS 3014: 1958, but other materials may be used. If other materials are used they shall comply with the material requirements of 3.1. If the safety sides are removable the spigots shall be 16 mm diameter stainless

21、 steel rod. 3.7 Medical gas cylinder cradle or support. Dependent on the size of the medical gas cylinder required the material used shall be of sufficient strength adequately to support the weight of the full cylinder and its attachments. 3.8 Tray. The tray, where provided, shall be of steel in acc

22、ordance with BS 1449: Part 1, grade CRA, not less than 0.9 mm in thickness, of stainless steel sheet in accordance with BS 1449: Part 2, grade 302325 or 304S15, not less than 0.7 mm in thickness, or of any other suitable material of at least equivalent performance. 3.9 Foot-redhead-rest. The foot-re

23、dhead-rest should preferably be of stainless steel of 16 mm minimum diameter and 1.6 mm thickness complying with the requirements of grade 1 as specified in part 2 of BS 3014: 1958, but other materials may be used. If other materials are used they shall comply with the material requirements of 3.1.

24、The spigots shall be of stainless steel rod. 4. Dimensions 4.1 Overall dimensions of the trolley. The length shall not exceed 2000 mm including buffering. The width shall not exceed 800 mm including buffering. The height shall be 800 ? 5 mm without mattress. 4.2 Wheelbase. The longitudinal distance

25、between castor stems, centre to centre, shall be not less than 1200 mm. The transverse distance between castor stems, centre to centre, shall be not less than 500 mm. 4.3 Top. The length of the trolley top supporting the patient shall be 1800 f 10 mm. The width shall be not less than 550 mrn. 1 BSI

For a cylinder of either 1360 litre or 680 litre capacity a cradle similar to that shown in figure 5 shall be provided in accordance with the following sizes: (a) 1360 litres: length 760 f 5 mm X inside diameter 145 + 3

27、 - O mm; (b) 680 litres: length 680 f 5 mm X inside diameter 105 + 3- O mm. For cylinders of 340 litre capacity it may be more convenien to fit a support with cylinder retaining straps. The effective dimensions shall be: length 350 f 5 mm X inside diameter 105+3-Omm. NOTE. These dimensions do not co

28、rrespond to the total length of the cylinder. 4.5 Pole for infusion containers. The dimensions of the pole shall be in accordance with BS 3619 (as illustrated in figures 6 and 7) with the exception that the minimum and maximum heights measured from the floor to the effective suspension joints of the

29、 hook bar shall be 1880 mm and 2300 mm respectively. 4.6 Tray. The tray shall measure at least 500 mm wide, 350 mm long and 50 mm deep. 4.7 Mattress. The mattress shall be a minimum of 1825 mm long and a maximum of 525 mm wide and of a minimum thickness of 25 mm. 4.8 Safety sides. Safety sides shall

30、 be not less than 1 m long and not less than 350 mm above the mattress platform. 4.9 Foot-rest/head-rest. The overall width shall be not less than 450 mm. The overall height measured from the top surface of the mattress platform shall be not less than 250 mm. 4.10 Buffering. The buffering shall be a

31、t least 600 mm above floor level. 5. Construction 5.1 Cross bracing. The lonuitudinal and transverse members shall not be welded to the gertical leg members at the same height. 5.2 Welding 5.2.1 Welding shall be in accordance with BS 693, BS 301 9 or BS 5135 as applicable, neatly and correctly execu

32、ted on fully prepared joints. 5.2.2 The dressing of welds shall be accurately executed to avoid impairment of the joint strength. There shall be no sharp edges or crevices which may harbour dirt or foreign matter. 5.3 Castings. When castings are used in the construction they shall be of: (a) malleab

33、le iron in accordance with BS 309, grade W22l4, or (b) aluminium alloy in accordance with BS 1490, grade LM4. Any other suitable material having equivalent mechanical properties is acceptable. 5.4 Top. The sheet metal top, if not of flat construction, shall be curved to a depth of not less than 25 m

34、m and not more than 50 mm. It shall be attached to the two longitud- inal supporting members and to the transverse straps at each end by rolling over or shall be otherwise securely fastened to the supports. If made of radio-translucent materials, the top shall be flat, suitably supported and held fi

35、rmly in place. 5.5 Tilting. Controlled from the patient head end, the top sha!l be capable of being immediately tilted longitudinally within a maximum of 12“ from tte horizontal and shall incorporate a device to prevent accidental movement of the top from any positi-qn, 7 : 5.6 Stretcher trolley 5.6

36、.1 top (see clause 1) it shall have dimensions in accordance with figure 3 and shall be made to accommodate stretchers as specified in BS 896: Part 1. 5.6.2 The transverse tie straps illustrated in figure 3 shall be upturned at the ends to form brackets. They shall be of steel or stainless steel acc

37、ording to the framework and shall be of 50 mm minimum width and 6 mm minimum thickness. 5.7 Sliding top (for patient transfer). Where a sliding top stretcher is provided the construction shall be such that two trolleys can be securely and quickly locked together to ensure a safe transfer. The transf

38、er may be effected either laterally or longitudinally and figure 4 illustrates a typical longitudinal example. The lockincj device shall be capable of being quickly released. 5.8 Sockets for infusion poles. A minimum of two sockets shall be provided. If only two sockets to take an infusion pole are

39、provided they shall be positioned diagonally to one another on the trolley, the socket at the head end being to the left of the patient. The sockets shall be as specified in 3.4 and shall be not less than 75 mm long. Each socket shall be provided with a non-removable screw or clamp to fix the pole a

40、t the required height. 5.9 Pole for infusion containers. If required, a detachable pole of the type specified in BS 3619 for carrying infusion containers may be supplied. A collar shall be provided on the pole to prevent it from fouling the floor or the castors. Means shall be provided on the patien

41、t trolley for safely and securely housing the pole when not in use. Details of the pole are given in figures 6 and 7. Although the length of the pole is not specified it shall be able to achieve, at the nook end, a minimum height of 1880 mm and a maximum height of 2300 mm from the floor, but shall b

42、e contained within the length of the trolley when stored horizontally. 5.10 Castors. ach patient trolley shall be fitted with four antistatic castors complying with the requirements of BS 2099: Part 1. The wheels shall be 230 mm nominal diameter. They shall swivel in ball races and be fitted with sc

43、rew-type axles. Braked castors, sprung castors or a track- ing castor shall be specified by the purchaser if required. The castors shall have a stove enamelled or a chromium plated finish and the centres shall be clearly and indelibly marked with yellow, similar to Colouf number 309 of Castor tyres

44、shall be of an antistatic composition that shall not permanently stain the floor. The maximum limit of resistance shall be lo4 R when tested in accordance with A.4.1 of BS 2050 : 1078 5.1 1 Cradle or support for oxygen cylinders. The joints of the cradle or support, and its attachment to the patient

The cradle or support shall be provided with a non-removable retaining screw that, when tighte

46、ned, maintains electrical continuity between the cradle or support and the oxygen cylinder. When either a cradle or support is used the positioning shall be such that adequate protection is provided for both cylinder and its attachment (regulator and/or flowmeter). If the flowmeter is of the dry bob

47、bin type it shall be perpendicular. If a cradle is fitted it shall be slung lengthwise beneath the top of the patient trolley at the head end and to the right of the patient. It shall tilt slightly downwards towards the foot end of the patient trolley (approximately 15“). The support for the 340 lit

48、re capacity oxygen cylinder, if used, can be positioned either lengthwise, transversely or perpendicular to the patient trolley. 5.12 Tray. All bends and angles shall be rounded and with open corners to assist cleaning. The tray shall be securely fixed to the framework (see figure 5 for typical arra

49、nge- ment). 5.13 Mattress. The mattress shall comply with the require- ments of BS 3379 classification type CB, class V, grade 270 and shall be of antistatic quality. Suitable provision shall be made to prevent the mattress slipping. For an adjustable backrest (see clause 1 (9) a hinged mattress should be supplied. 5.14 Safety sides. The construction of the safety sides and their attachment to the patient trolley shall be such that they protect both the patient and operator from injury. Means shall be provided on the trolley to house safely the safety sides when not in use. 5
