The standard has been revised to include all current systems of pulse and time code synchronization as used in the film and television industries. It supersedes BS5550-5.4.1:1978 which is withdrawn. 10、ection of BS5550 identifies the various systems of pulse and time code synchronization for unperforated magnetic audio tape as specified in BS6288-1, currently used in conjunction with motion-picture and videotape recordings. NOTEThe title of the publication referred to in this standard is given on
、the inside back cover. 2 Characteristics of synchronization systems 2.1 The dimensional features of synchronization systems likely to be encountered are shown in Table 1. 2.2 Both the time base frequency and a description of the synchronizing signal should be stated, together with a reference to the
、 picture frame rate frequency (in frames per second) (e.g.50Hz Neo Pilotton referred to25 frames per second). 2.3 If integrated audio and time code heads with in-line gaps cannot be used for crosstalk reasons and separate code heads have to be used, the resulting time difference on tape between the
、audio and the time code recordings should be compensated electronically within the recorder itself. Any off-set in time between the audio and the time code recordings should be stated on the spool or container. 2.4 The recommended speed for6.25mm tape is19.05cm/s, although38.1cm/s is acceptable. The
、 recommended speed for3.81mm tape is9.52cm/s, although other speeds may also be used. 2.5 The recording should be made in such a manner that, on reproduction, the tape moves from left to right with the magnetic coating away from the observer. The positions of the audio records and the pulse and time
、 code records are given inTable 1. 2.6 In multitrack records the synchronizing signal should be located on the higher track number.BS5550-5.4.1:1986 2 BSI 10-1999 Table 1 Synchronization systems System Diagrammatic representation of the system Sync. signal data Telefunken (stereo) 10 kHz carrier FM
