It supersedes BS5608:1986 which is withdrawn. In the 1986 edition

11、 one category of rigid polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam products was excluded, the continuously formed pipe sections; and one category added, slabs. The performance requirements and test methods were updated from the1978 edition together with the guidance on burning properties and

12、recommendations regarding their use. This edition introduces technical changes but it does not reflect a full review or revision of the standard. Requirements have been included for thermal conductivity to be designated by the manufacturer. It is envisaged that this standard will be replaced by a Eu

13、ropean Standard in due course and that the European Standard will be adopted in the BSEN series. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard doe

14、s not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, pages1 to 6, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. Thi

15、s will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS 5608:1993 BSI 07-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the composition, physical properties and dimensional tolerances for preformed rigid polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) foams for the thermal insulation o

16、f pipework and equipment. It applies to slabs, cut and moulded pipe sections and radiused and bevelled lags. The nominal temperature range f or which the insulation material is suitable is 180 C to +140 C (see Annex F). NOTE 1No values are specified in this standard for the length, bore and outside

17、diameter of pipe sections and lags or for the length and width of slab stock; these should be as specified by the purchaser. 2 References 2.1 Normative references This British Standard incorporates, by reference, provisions from specific editions of other publications. These normative references are

18、 cited at the appropriate points in the text and the publications are listed on this inside back cover. Subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, any of these publications apply to this British Standard only when incorporated in it by updating or revision. 2.2 Informative references This British St

Editions of these publications current at the time of issue of this standard are listed on the inside back cover, but reference should be made to the latest editions. 3 Designation For the purposes of this British Standard, th

The designation shall consist of a three component code comprising the following items, in the order presented: a) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e.BS5608:1993 b) a number indicating the foam type; c) a double digit number to indic

NOTEAnnex F gives additional guidance on the applications of these categories. Table 1 Designation code

For slabs the permissible thickness

30、 deviations shall be 1.5mm. 7 Condition and appearance The material shall have a uniform fine cellular structure. NOTE 1In the case of moulded products there will normally be a skin which can vary in thickness. NOTE 2The condition, appearance and odour of the product may be agreed on the basis of an

Where it is not possible to cut test specimens from the product, cut or moulded test pieces which shall be of the same formulation and density as the material supplied shall be used

This is acceptable provided that the mating surfaces so created still fit snugly together. In many cases this practice enhances the

38、 and normal to the longitudinal axis of the lag. NOTENo values are specified for their width on the outer and inner faces. 9.3 Moulded components All moulded items shall be free from grease or other moulding release agent that will adversely reduce the adhesion of insulation, mastics and adhesives.

39、9.4 Colour identification PIR foam shall be supplied coloured pink. PUR foam shall be supplied in any other colour or without added colour as required. 10 Marking The product, packages or invoice shall be marked with at least the following information. a) manufacturers name or trademark; b) product

Generally this will be higher than

49、or equal to the30day value. b) The 3 day value of thermal conductivity. This value is often used in manufacturing control operations, to ensure the quality of product is regularly maintained. Generally it will be lower than or equal to the30day value.
