10、ommittee to specify requirements for insulating jackets to reduce the heat loss from domestic hot water cylinders. It supersedes BS 5615:1978 which is withdrawn. The main change from the 1978 edition is a reduction in the permitted heat loss from 3 kWh per 24 h to 2.5 kWh per 24 h. The test apparatu

11、s has been improved without altering the basic method of test. Minor changes have been made to many clauses, in the light of experience gained from use of this standard over the last5years. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British St

12、andards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. 14、ating jackets for use with domestic hot water storage cylinders complying with the dimensional requirements of BS 699 or BS 1566. This standard is not applicable to insulation for combination vessels complying with BS 3198, rectangular vessels complying with BS 417-2 and factory insulated cylinders.

15、 The performance test described in this standard is applicable to one size of cylinder jacket only, but provision is made for the claiming of compliance with this standard of cylinder jackets of other sizes. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside bac

16、k cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the following definitions, together with those given in BS 3533 and BS 4422, apply. 2.1 cylinder a closed cylindrical vessel with domed ends 2.2 jacket a detachable insulating cover for the top and sides of a vertical cylindrical hot w

17、ater storage vessel 2.3 standing heat loss the energy consumed in 24 h when an electronically controlled immersion heater is used to maintain the temperature of water in a cylinder at 50 C above the surrounding air temperature 2.4 three term controller a controller that has proportional, integral an

18、d derivative modes of control 3 Design and manufacture 3.1 The jacket shall be constructed to fit closely and to cover the sides and top of the hot water storage cylinder for which it is designed. It shall also be constructed to fit closely round all British Standard pipe connections, immersion heat

19、ers and thermostats mounted in the horizontal or vertical positions given in BS 699 and BS 1566. 3.2 The jacket shall be provided with means to enable it to be secured closely round the vent pipe. 3.3 The length of the jacket shall be such that when fitted closely round the vent pipe, the lower edge

20、 of the insulation is not more than 20 mm above the base of the cylinder. 3.4 Each jacket or segment of a jacket shall incorporate a mechanical means of securing the insulating material within the covering material. 3.5 A horizontal or a vertical joint in the insulating material is permitted in each

21、 jacket or segment of a jacket. Where a horizontal joint is made, the insulating material shall be overlapped or interleaved by at least 100 mm, and the upper portion shall be mechanically secured within the cover. Where a vertical joint is made, both portions shall be mechanically secured within th

22、e cover. 3.6 Means shall be provided to secure the jacket closely round the side of the cylinder. This shall either be in the form of a minimum of three fixings equally spaced at not more than 300 mm apart, with the lowest fixing being not more than 150 mm from the base of the tank and the highest f

23、ixing not more than 150 mm below the start of the domed top of the cylinder or in the form of a continuous vertical fastening extending from not more than 150 mm above the base of the tank to not more than 150 mm below the start of the domed top. 3.7 Where fixing bands or tapes are used for retainin

24、g the jacket in place they shall have a length at least equal to the external circumference of the jacket on the cylinder plus an allowance of 150 mm for fastening. The breaking force of each fixing band or tape at23 2 C shall be not less than 40 N when tested using a grade A tensile testing machine

25、 complying with BS 1610:1964. The fixing band or tape shall be gripped across its full width and the rate of separation of the grips shall be 50 5 mm/min. The length of the test specimen fitted between the grips shall be 200 20 mm. 4 Materials NOTEMaterials used should not comprise or contain substa

26、nces that encourage pests or support the growth of fungus, either when dry or wetted with clear water, and should be free from objectionable odours and noxious fumes at the temperatures at which they are to be used. As these properties are of a subjective nature, there are no definitive tests that c

27、an be applied to them, and they are therefore not included as requirements of this standard. 4.1 Insulating material 4.1.1 The insulating material shall be designated non-combustible in accordance with BS 476-4. 4.1.2 Insulating material made of man-made mineral fibre shall comply with BS 5803-1. 4.

28、1.3 The manufacturer shall not use an insulating material for which there is evidence that it suffers permanent deterioration under conditions of use, including intermittent contact with moisture and intermittent heating to 100 C.BS5615:1985 2 BSI 07-1999 4.2 Covering materials and fastenings NOTETh

29、e materials that have been found to be suitable as covering materials are PVC film, nylon cloth and glass cloth. 4.2.1 Where PVC is used as the covering material it shall be of type 1B complying with BS 1763 and be of a thickness not less than 100 4m. 4.2.2 Fabric covering materials shall be of low

30、flammability within the terms of BS 3121. 4.2.3 Where a fabric covering material has been treated with a flame retardant, the manufacturer shall ensure that there is no evidence that the compound used causes corrosion to the surfaces with which it will be in contact, or to adjacent surfaces, surroun

31、dings and fittings under site conditions and under conditions of use. 4.2.4 The manufacturer shall not use a covering material for which there is evidence that it suffers permanent deterioration as a result of contact with moisture, or suffers deterioration under conditions of use. When samples of t

32、he covering material, the tapes and fastenings are placed in an oven at a temperature of 100 2 C for 1 h, they shall not exhibit visible signs of deterioration or shrinkage in excess of 5 %. 5 Performance 5.1 Jackets for type reference 7 cylinders When the jacket is tested by the method described in

33、 Appendix A the standing heat loss of a cylinder complying with the dimensional requirements of BS699, type reference 7, grade 3 shall be not more than 2.5 kWh per 24 h, taken as the mean value for three samples. NOTEWhere man-made mineral fibre is used as the insulating material, the pass criterion

34、 can normally be attained by the use of material 80 mm thick. 5.2 Jackets for cylinders of other sizes A jacket for a size of cylinder within the range of sizes given in BS 699 and BS 1566 other than the size specified in 5.1 shall be deemed to provide analogous performance, provided that: a) a jack

35、et to fit the type reference 7 cylinder has been tested in accordance with, and complies with, 5.1 that 1) has been produced at the same manufacturing site, 2) is made of the same type and thickness of materials, 3) has the same form of construction; and b) if of segmental construction the ratio of

36、total width of insulation in the segments divided by the cylinder circumference is not less than that provided for the type 7. NOTEJackets of segmental construction may have a different number of segments from those tested in accordance with 5.1. 6 Marking 6.1 Jacket Each jacket shall have printed o

37、n it or on a self-adhesive or sewn-on label the following information. a) The number and date of this British Standard (i.e. BS 5615:1985 1) ). b) The manufacturers name and/or trade mark. c) The diameter and height of the cylinder for which it is intended to be used. 6.2 Packaging Each pack shall b

38、e permanently marked with the following information. NOTEA printed label inside a transparent package and clearly visible to the purchaser would be acceptable. a) The name of the manufacturer or supplier. b) The brand name of the jacket. c) The number of this British Standard (i.e.BS5615:1985 1) ).

39、d) The nominal thickness of insulation infill. e) The diameter and height of cylinder for which it is intended. f) The country of manufacture. 7 Instructions Comprehensive fitting instructions shall be provided with each jacket. Such instructions shall state that the immersion heater head is not to

40、be covered, unless instructions on the thermostat specifically allow this, and shall warn against overtightening fixing bands during installation as this could reduce insulation efficiency. 1) Marking BS 5615:1985 on or in relation to a product is a claim by the manufacturer that the product has bee

41、n manufactured to the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of such a claim is therefore solely the manufacturers responsibility. 42、, Milton Keynes MK14 6LO for certification marks administered by BSI or to the appropriate authority for other certification marks.BS 5615:1985 BSI 07-1999 3 Appendix A Method of test for performance A.1 Principle The thermal performance of a cylinder jacket is determined from measurement of the pow

43、er consumption of an immersion heater fitted in a copper cylinder insulated by the jacket. NOTEThe method requires that a constant temperature difference be maintained between the ambient air temperature and the temperature of a point on the surface of the cylinder. A.2 Apparatus A.2.1 A suitable ar

44、rangement for the apparatus is shown in Figure 1. A copper cylinder complying with BS699, type reference 7, grade 3 is used. A.2.2 The cylinder is supported clear of the floor on a suitable platform, in a draught free position and protected from direct radiation or changes in temperature so that the

45、 ambient temperature is between 15 C and 25 C and does not vary by more than 5 C from the initial temperature during the period of the test measurements. Screens shall be provided as shown in Figure 1. A.2.3 The cylinder is fitted with a straight immersion heater of immersed length 0.69 m which has

46、a plastics terminal cover and a loading of 3 kW and complies with BS 3456-2.21. The immersion heater is fitted in the top entry position as given in BS 699. Cold water is supplied to the cylinder from an independent cold water storage vessel, situated at least 600 mm above the top of the cylinder, b

47、y means of 22 mm copper pipe running vertically between the two vessels and at least 100 mm from the surface of the cylinder. This pipe is connected to one of the low level screwed connections via a T-piece. A 22 mm copper vent pipe is inserted in the highest point of the cylinder so that it travels

48、 vertically for at least 100 mm before travelling diagonally to clear the cold water storage vessel and terminating with the outlet directly over this vessel so as to allow overflow into the storage tank. Akilowatt hour meter capable of indicating consumption to 0.01 kWh is used to measure energy co

49、nsumption. A.2.4 The ambient air temperature is measured with a thermocouple having its hot junction located in the geometric centre of a steel block50mm 25mm 25 mm. This is achieved by drilling a 2 mm diameter hole, 25 mm in depth, in the centre of one 25 mm 25 mm face. The metal block incorporating the thermocouple is secured to the instrument panel, as shown in Figure 1. NOTEMineral insulated, stainless steel sheathed thermocouples should be used which have an external diameter of 1.5 mm with nickel-chromium/nickel-aluminium thermocouple el
