8、tical with IEC574-8:1979 “Audio-visual, video and television equipment and systems Part8: Symbols and identification”, published by the International Electrotechnical Comission (IEC), as amended by Amendment No. 1, published in February1988. The symbols contained in this Part of BS5817 are also publ
9、ished in IEC417:1973 “Graphical symbols for use on equipment”, which is in agreement with Harmonization Document HD243, published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). This new edition of BS5817-8 supersedes BS5817-8:1981, which is withdrawn. This edition introduc
10、es additional terms to the existing alphabetical and numeric indices together with their associated symbols to bring the standard up to date but it does not reflect a full review of the standard, which will be undertaken in due course. The symbo
19、ls are selected from IEC Publication417, Graphical Symbols for Use on Equipment Index, Survey and Compilation of the Single Sheets. 2 Object Symbols for education and training equipment should not differ from those used on equipment in other fields of application where the function of a control or t
20、he purpose of a connector or terminal is the same for all fields of application. Symbols should always be sufficiently simple so that they may: a) be clearly reproduced on small equipment; b) only in exceptional circumstances require more than one colour; c) be within the intellectual capability of
21、a normal child to learn and make use of. Given that the above requirements can be satisfied, particularly Item c), it should not be necessary for a child to understand why any symbol represents a certain function or purpose.
