Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has been approved as suitable for

13、 publication, without deviation, as a British Standard. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in BritishStandards; attention is especially drawn to the following. The comma has been used as a decimal marker. In British Standards it is current practice to use a fu

14、ll point on the baseline as the decimal marker. Where the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as “BritishStandard”. Cross-reference. There is no BritishStandard corresponding exactly to ISO296:1974, to which reference is made in the text. For the pu

15、rposes of this standard the BritishStandard corresponding to ISO296 is BS1660, “Machine tapers, reduction sleeves and extension sockets”. For an explanation of the ISO system of limits and fits, including the meaning of the symbol h12 (see clause4), see BS4500 “ISO limits and fits” Part1 “General, t

16、olerances and deviations”. Typographical presentation. In preparing this standard for publication, the “rules” in Table 2 below the values of S and L under the heading No.2 and above the values of S and L under the heading No.4 have been positioned opposite the “rule” between the values11,80 and13,2

17、0in the left-hand column. (In the ISO publication, the “rules” under the headings No.2 and No.4 were printed slightly higher than their true positions.) The illustrations are diagrammatic only and are not intended to indicate details of design. 2 Reference ISO296, Machine tools Self-holding tapers for tool shanks. 3 Dimensions 3.1 The dimensions for the driving tenons of parallel shank tools are given in Table 1. 3.2 The d

21、imensions for the sockets for parallel shank tools with driving tenons are given in Table 2. The external dimensions of the sockets shall be in accordance with ISO296 with the exception of the overall length and distance from the gauge plane, which shall be as shown in Table 2. The dimensions shown

22、in Table 1 and Table 2 are in metric units only, these being regarded as the only recommended dimensions in the future. 4 Tolerance The tolerance relating to width t of driving tenons for parallel shank tools is h12.
