12、 20151 ScopeThis British Standard specifies constructional and dimensional requirements forthe manufacture of saddle trees made from wood. It applies to horse-ridingsaddles for general use (jumping, showing, hacking, dressage and similaractivities) but excludes saddle trees for use with racing saddl

20、is madeBRITISH STANDARD BS 6635:2015 The British Standards Institution 2015 14 Materials4.1 Wood4.1.1 Beech or birch veneer as specified in 4.1.2 or birch plywood as specifiedin 4.1.3 shall be used for the manufacture of saddle trees.4.1.2 Beech or birch veneer of 2 mm maximum thickness shall be use

21、d andlaminated using an adhesive conforming to type WBP as specified in 4.2.4.1.3 Birch plywood shall be used using adhesive conforming to type WBP asspecified in 4.2.4.2 AdhesivesAdhesives shall conform to BS 1203:2001, type WBP.4.3 Metal4.3.1 Cap and gullet plates4.3.1.1 Cap and gullet plates shal

30、ensions formed at the head of the saddle tree (see Figure 2) shallbe as specified in Table 2.NOTE 1 The manufacture of trees may have variations in the design and shape ofthe saddle tree head while maintaining the angle.NOTE 2 Angle dimensions do not equate to width markings. Because of thevariation

35、tish Standards Institution 2015Figure 4 Example of a symmetry measuring jig7 Manufacture7.1 The head of the saddle tree shall consist of laminations with a totalminimum thickness of 8 mm and the side bars with a minimum thicknessof 7 mm.7.2 Gullets of pressed or stainless steel shall be lipped and n

36、ot less than 2.95 mmin thickness and not less than 32 mm in width at the apex of the plate.7.3 The long axis of the gullet plate shall be parallel to the direction of rolling.7.4 Forged steel gullet plates shall be made from forging steel conforming toPD 970:2005, 070M20, with a cross-section of not

37、 less than 200 mm2at the apexof the arch.NOTE If forged, the gullets do not have to be lipped.7.5 The number of rivets in the gullet plates between the joints of the side barsshall be not less than eight on a straight-head tree and ten on a cutback-headtree.7.6 Rivets shall go through both cap plate

38、 and gullet plate and shall beadequately burred over. The riveting process shall not affect the integrity of theplate. Countersunk rivets of no less than 4.66 mm diameter shall be used. Therivets shall be of mild steel rounded 90 countersunk conforming to thedimensions given in Figure 5 and Table 4.

40、ched to trees using no less than 3 rivets ofdiameter 6.22 mm or above or 4 rivets of diameter 4.66 mm or above.7.8 Cap and cantle plates shall be fitted.7.9 Joints at the head and cantle shall be made with an adhesive as specifiedin 4.2.7.10 All internal corners of gullet plates shall have minimum i
