、ide back coverBS7012-0:1989 ii BSI 09-1999 Foreword This Part of BS7012 has been prepared under the direction of the Laboratory Apparatus Standards Committee. It explains the structure of BS7012. For many years the UK has participated in the work of Subcommittee5, Microscopes, of Technical Committee
、 ISO/TC172, Optics and optical instruments, of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is now intended to implement the standards produced by, or in preparation in, ISO/TC172 as dual-numbered British Standards, except in those cases where current UK practice prevents their adopt
、ion. The International Standards relating to light microscopes and components will be published as Parts of BS7012 and the International Standards relating to consumable accessories as Parts of BS7011. Table 1 details the Parts of BS7012 currently available or in preparation. When Part4 of BS7012 is
、 published it will supersede BS3569:1962 which will then be withdrawn. In preparing this standard, the Technical Committee gave careful consideration to use of the term “light microscopes”, because it was recognized that in some circumstances it could be wrongly interpreted as meaning “light-weight
、microscopes”. Use of the term “optical microscopes” was rejected as this includes electron microscopes, which are not within the scope of BS7012. In choosing the term “light microscopes” account was taken of the use of the term within the industry and the terminology recommended by the Royal Microsc
、opical Society. For the purposes of this standard light microscopes are those which use light in the visible range (i.e.wavelengths of400nm to760nm) as the illuminating agent. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are re
、sponsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations.
