、7033-5:1990 ii BSI 09-1999 Foreword This Part of BS7033 has been prepared under the direction of the Textiles and Clothing Standards Policy Committee. A wide range of cleaning and polishing cloths is in use for different applications, BS7033 specifies requirements for a limited range of cloths suita
、ble for cleaning and polishing applications and is published in five Parts as follows: Part 1: Specification for optical polishing cloths for use on transparent plastics panels; Part 2: Specification for industrial wipers from reclaimed materials and waste yarns for cleaning and lubricating purposes
、; Part 3: Specification for floorcloths and dishcloths; Part 4: Specification for window cleaning cloths 1) ; Part 5: Specification for general polishing cloths. In this Part, requirements are specified for general polishing cloths. The standard covers the end products quoted but can also be used to
、 specify the fabrics from which they are manufactured. Many properties cannot be specified objectively and cannot therefore be included in the specification. Examples of such properties include colour, handle, appearance and details of additional design features. Public sector purchasing authorities
、 may be able to supply standard patterns which cover these properties and serve to resolve any ambiguities of description. The standard only covers the basic description of the products and their construction and performance requirements. Purchasing authorities may therefore need to include addition
、al information. Test methods for the cloths are given inAppendix A. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immuni
、ty from legal obligations. In particular attention is drawn to Statutory Instrument1986 No.26 the Textile Products (Indications of Fibre Content) Regulations1986. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pagesi andii, pages1 to4, an inside back cover and a back

This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. 1) In preparation.BS7033-5:1990 BSI 09-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of BS7033 specifies requirements for general polishing cloths

、he application of polish. 3 Requirements General polishing cloths shall be either square or rectangular and shall comply withTable 1. NOTECloths should not scratch the surface to be polished or cause excessive linting. In this respect cotton fabrics have been found suitable for general polishing clo
、ths. No laboratory tests have been found suitable for assessing scratching or linting propensity of the cloths. 4 Sampling, conditioning and compliance 4.1 Sampling Sampling shall be carried out in such a manner that samples taken are representative of the manufacturing, processing, dyeing or finish
、ing batch from which they are drawn. NOTEA sufficient number of representative samples should be taken to carry out all the tests specified inTable 1. 4.2 Conditioning of specimens Specimens shall be conditioned for a minimum of24h, and tested in the standard temperate atmosphere for testing of text
、iles defined in BS1051, i.e.a relative humidity of652% and a temperature of20 20 C. In the event of a dispute, samples shall be pre-conditioned for4h in a relative humidity not exceeding10% at a temperature not greater than50 C before being exposed to the standard temperate atmosphere for testing of
、 textiles. 4.3 Compliance In the event of a dispute, if any of the samples tested do not comply with any requirement of this standard, the tests that the sample has failed, shall be repeated twice. For this purpose, two further samples shall be taken from the same batch as the original sample, and t
、he same number of test specimens as for the original test shall be taken from each sample so that duplicate tests may be conducted. If all the retest results are in accordance with the requirements given, the bulk of the cloths that the samples represent shall be deemed to comply with the requiremen
、ts of this standard. If any of the results of the retest are not in accordance with the requirements, the bulk of the cloths that the samples represent shall be deemed not to comply with the requirements of this standard. 5 Marking Each package shall bear the following information: a) name, trademar
、k or other means of identification of the manufacturer; b) number and date of this British Standard, i.e.BS7033-5:1990 2)and the appropriate cloth reference; c) month and year of manufacture; d) number of cloths per package, or mass of roll as appropriate. NOTEIn addition, each package should bear s
、uch other markings as the contract or order may direct. 2) Marking BS7033-5:1990 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e.a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is
、therefore solely the responsibility of the person making the claim. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third party certification of conformity, which may also be desirable.BS 7033-5:1990 2 BSI 09-1999 Table 1 General polishing cloths Cloth reference Description and recommended use Constru
