Its purpose is to provide a general introduction to a series of Parts of BS 7442 dealing with rubber or plastics covered rollers. Although BS 7442 is directed mainly at manufacturers and users of rubber covered rollers, it is rec
7、ognized that some roller coverings, such as polyurethanes, are regarded by some as a “rubber” covering and by others as a “plastics” covering. Parts of BS 7442 have been, or will be, published as follows: Part 1: Glossary of terms; Part 2: Recommendations for technical information to be provided by
8、the purchaser; Part 3: Methods of test; Part 4: Specifications. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity f

It draws attention to a number of end-uses, methods of test related to the roller covering and the covered

NOTEThe titles of publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS7442 the definitions given in BS1755, BS3
12、558 and BS7442-1 apply, together with the following: rubber (or plastics) covered roller a nominally cylindrical core, usually of metal, upon which is bonded a covering or coverings of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubber or plastics materials 3 End-uses Rubber or plastics covered rollers have a varie
13、ty of end-uses in a number of industries. They are employed in coating and laminating textiles, wood, paper, and plastics, in impregnating absorbent surfaces with dyestuffs, adhesives and resins, and in printing patterns and reliefs onto textiles, paper, plastics and similar materials (see BS6243 an
14、d BS6545). They are also used for their frictional properties in textile spinning (seeBS 2794-2), paper processing, in calendering of plastics and film and in the food and associated industries for such processes as rice milling and oil extraction. NOTEThese are examples only, and the list is not in
15、tended to be exhaustive. 4 Test methods 4.1 Types of test Test methods for rubber or plastics covered rollers can be categorized broadly as either: a) those designed specifically for use with covered rollers (see4.2); or b) those applicable to the roller covering material (see4.3). 4.2 Covered rolle
16、r tests Tests on covered rollers are designed mainly to measure: a) apparent hardness, (seePart3 of this BritishStandard); b) the surface eccentricity relative to the shaft or journal axis (i.e.departure from roundness) (seeBS6740); c) the surface roughness of the roller covering (seefor exampleBS11
17、34). 4.3 Roller covering tests Tests on roller covering materials are designed mainly to measure: a) compression set (seefor example BS903-A6 for rubber); b) energy absorption or resilience (seefor exampleBS 903-A8 for rubber); c) abrasion resistance (seefor example BS 903-A9 for rubber); d) resista
18、nce to liquids (seefor example BS903-A16 for rubber); e) heat resistance and ageing (seefor example BS903-A19 for rubber); f) frictional properties (for rubber a further Part of BS903 is envisaged). 5 Selection of roller covering materials 5.1 End-use demands Rubber or plastics covered rollers have
19、a wide variety of uses and each end use imposes its own particular set of demands on the roller covering material. For this reason it is essential that the manufacturer of the roller covering is made aware of all the conditions of use of the covered roller and of the demands that will be made of the
20、 roller covering by the user. A questionnaire suitable for this purpose is described in Part2 1)of this BritishStandard. 5.2 Polymer data Information on the properties of different types of rubber materials is given in BS 6716 and ISO/TR 7620. 6 Storage As far as practicable, roller covering materia
