、iii Foreword This British Standard has been prepared by Subcommittee GEL/20/6. This new standard has been produced in view of the increasing demand for cables for fixed wiring in ships and on mobile and fixed offshore units having fire resistance (limited circuit integrity) in the event of fire. NOT

、E Two categories of fire resistance are specified in this standard. Further categories are under consideration. BS 7917 complements BS 6883 which specifies a range of cables having no requirement to maintain fire resistance (limited circuit integrity) in the event of fire. The minimum and maximum di

、ameters, both those over the inner sheath and those over the outer sheath, quoted in the relevant construction tables are indicative only and do not take into account any glanding requirements. It has been assumed in the preparation of this British Standard that the execution of its provisions will

、be entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people, for whose use it has been produced. WARNING. This British Standard calls for the use of substances and/or procedures that may be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. It refers only to technical suitability and does

、 not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health and safety at any stage. Annexes C, D, E and F are normative. Annexes A, B, G and H are informative. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises

NOTE Attention is drawn to the fact that t

、he ability of a given cable to meet a particular category in this standard refers only to the test condition stated, and the level of performance achieved in a particular installation may be influenced by actual installation conditions. 5 General requirements 5.1 Construction and dimensions The construction and dimensions of the cables shall be as specified in the appropriate construction table (Tables 6 to 15 or Tables 19 to 34, as applicable).
