18、uction and performance of non-armoured cables with thermosettinginsulation of rated voltages 600/1 000 V which, when assessed by the specifiedtests, produce lower levels of smoke and corrosive products under exposure tofire compared with cables conforming to BS 7889.NOTE 1 These tests are published
19、in separate British Standards to which reference ismade at the appropriate point in the text. The Scope clauses of these BritishStandards contain cautionary notes concerning the applicability of such tests, andthese should be taken into account when assessing the suitability of cables specifiedin th
20、is British Standard for use in a particular application.Cables specified in this British Standard are intended for use in fixed installationsin industrial areas, buildings and similar applications but not for burial in theground, either directly or in ducts.The cables specified in this British Stand
21、ard are all stranded copper conductor,thermosetting insulated, thermoplastic sheathed types. There are single-coretypes and multi-core types (2-, 3-, 4- and 5-core).In this standard, the level of corrosive (and acid) gases is determined bymeasurement of hydrochloric acid (HCl) in accordance with BS
22、EN 50267-2-1.NOTE 2 These are indirect assessment methods, and reference should be made toIEC/TS 60695-5-2:2002, 5.1.5, for additional guidance.The insulation and other components are suitable to permit operation of thecables at a maximum sustained conductor temperature of 90 C and for amaximum shor
23、t-circuit conductor temperature of 250 C (for a maximum periodof 5 s).NOTE 3 Limitation on the temperature of the cables may be imposed in situationswhere they could be touched, or where they could touch other materials.NOTE 4 In installations that include wiring accessories, junction boxes andconsu
24、mer units etc., the performance of these accessories should be taken intoaccount in deciding the maximum operating temperature of the cable.NOTE 5 Annex A gives guidance on the use of these cables. Annex B gives the testfor shrinkage of sheath on cable. Annex C gives the compatibility test. Annex D

44、 be annealed copper as given in Table 2 to Table 6 inclusive,and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 60228, Class 2.NOTE The category of test for this requirement, and for all others in this standard,is shown in Table 1, “Schedule of tests”.6 Insulation6.1 Type of insulationThe insulation sha
45、ll be type GP 8 conforming to BS 7655-1.3, or type GP 6conforming to BS 7655-1.2, or type EI 5 conforming to BS EN 50363-5. For theassessment of halogens on the insulation taken from a completed cable, only 6.4shall apply.NOTE Other tests for assessment of halogens, for instance to BS EN 50267-2-2 a
46、ndBS EN 60684-2, are not required.6.2 ApplicationThe insulation shall be applied by an extrusion process and cross-linked to forma compact and homogeneous layer.NOTE 1 The insulation can be applied in a single layer, or in a number of cohesivelayers.Where more than one layer is used, the complete in
47、sulation shall be tested asthough it were a single layer.NOTE 2 Insulation applied in more than one layer does not conform to thedefinition of double insulation given, for instance, in BS 7671.The manufacturer shall have the option to apply a tape or tapes over theconductor or insulation. These tape
48、s shall not be included as part of theinsulation.It shall be possible to remove the insulation easily without damage to theinsulation itself or to the conductor.6.3 Thickness of insulationThe mean value of the radial thickness of the insulation, when measured inaccordance with BS EN 50396, 4.1, shal
49、l be not less than the value given inTable 2 to Table 6. The smallest value measured, tm, shall not fall below 90% ofthe value given in Table 2 to Table 6 by more than 0.1 mm, i.e.:tm0.9tn 0.1where:tmis the smallest value measured, in millimetres (mm);tnis the tabulated radial thickness, in millimetres (mm).6.4 Corrosive and acid gas emission of insulation and tape(s)When tested in accordance with BS EN 50267-2-1, the level of HCl shall be notgreater than 0.5%.BRITISH STANDARDBS 857
