It specifies requirements for24V

6、type N (normal) electrical connectors between towing vehicles and trailers and is based on ISO1185:1975 “Road vehicles Electrical connections between towing vehicles and towed vehicles with24V electrical equipment Type24N (normal)”, published by the International Organization for Standardization (IS

7、O). Connectors manufactured in accordance with this standard are interchangeable with those made in accordance with ISO1185, but the standards are not identical. This standard differs from ISO1185 in that there is an additional clause for mounting the socket and plug assembly, and that performance i

8、n accordance with BS194 is specified. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. 10、 cover.BSAU197:1984 BSI 01-2000 1 1 Scope This BritishStandard specifies requirements for sockets and plugs of type24N which will permit electrical connections between towing vehicles and trailers with24V electrical equipment. NOTE 1These sockets and plugs are not interchangeable with type24S (suppl

11、ementary) sockets and plugs (seeBS AU198). NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 General 2.1 Number of contacts. There shall be seven contacts, designated as follows. e common return; f left-hand rear position and end-outline marker

12、light, and rear registration-plate illuminating device; g left-hand direction-indicator light; h stop lights; i right-hand direction-indicator light; j right-hand rear position and end-outline marker light, and rear registration-plate illuminating device; k braking control for trailers. The rear reg

13、istration-plate illuminating device shall be connected in such a manner that no lamp of such a device has a common connection with both contacts f and j. 2.2 Arrangement of contacts. The arrangement of contacts shall be as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. 2.3 Socket. The socket shall be mounted on th

14、e rear of the towing vehicle in the case of a road train. It shall be mounted on the semi-trailer in the case of an articulated road train. The socket shall be provided with six contact pins(f to k) and one larger contact pin (e). All contacts shall be insulated. NOTEAfter fitting, contact e may be

15、connected to the common return of the vehicle. Each rear terminal shall be capable of receiving two conductors of1.5mm 2minimum cross section. The contact designations shall be permanently marked on the inside of the socket cover and on the terminal face in symbols not less than2mm high. NOTEThese s

16、ymbols, which need not be numbers, may differ from those indicated in Figure 1, provided that the specified pin locations of the different functions are complied with. The socket shall be provided with a splashproof cover which shall close automatically when the plug is disengaged. The hinged cover

17、on the socket shall be provided with a locking lug to retain the plug when it is engaged. All metallic parts of the socket shall be made of corrosion-resistant material or shall be protected against corrosion. 2.4 Plug. The plug shall be mounted on the trailer in the case of a road train and on the

18、towing vehicle in the case of an articulated road train. The plug shall be provided with six spring tubes corresponding to pins f to k and one larger spring tube corresponding to pin e. The internal diameter of tubes f to k shall be such that the corresponding pins of the socket can be connected wit

19、h a moderate push, but they shall ensure a good electrical contact. Each rear terminal shall be capable of receiving one conductor of2.5mm 2minimum cross section. The contact designations shall be permanently marked on the terminal face in symbols not less than2mm high. NOTEThese symbols, which need

20、 not be numbers, may differ from those indicated in Figure 2, provided that the specified pin locations of the different functions are complied with. It shall be impossible to connect pin e to any of the tubes f to k. All metallic parts of the plug shall be made of corrosion-resistant material or sh

21、all be protected against corrosion. Means of fixing and sealing the cable shall be provided. 2.5 Allocation of cable colours. A dark and permanent colour, preferably black, shall be used for at least the insulating parts of the24N connector, to distinguish it from the24S con

24、nector. NOTEBS AU198 specifies that the24S connector is a light and permanent colour. 2.7 Dimensions for socket and plug. The dimensions for the socket and plug shall be as given in Figure 1 and Figure 2. The clearance dimensions around the socket and plug assembly shall be as shown in Figure 3. The

25、 location of the socket and plug assembly on the towing vehicle shall be as specified in BS AU195. 3 Performance The connectors shall comply with BS AU194. All dimensions in millimetres.
