、BritishStandard specifies the basic dimensions and quality of materials for drawbar eyes and forecarriage pins for use in connections between towing vehicles and: a) trailers not exceeding14 tons gross weight b) trailers not exceeding35 tons gross weight The gross weights refer to gross laden train
、weights where more than one trailer is drawn. 2 Materials The quality of the materials used in construction shall be at least equal to the following: a) Drawbar eyes i) Trailers not exceeding14 tons gross weight: BS51 6) , wrought iron, Grade A, or BS970 7) , En3A. ii) Trailers not exceeding35 tons
、gross weight: BS970 7) , En3A. b) Forecarriage pins BS 970 7) , En3A. 3 Dimensions Dimensions shall be as shown in the Table and Figure 1. NOTEThe dimensions specified are calculated on the basis of the total yield strength of the parts of the drawbar being equal to two thirds of the gross weight be

It is necessary that any other parts connecting the trailer to the towing vehicle not covered this standard, shall be at least equal in strength. 4 Design a) Effective means shall be provided to prevent endwise movement of the forecarriage pin. b) If the drawbar eye is arranged to swivel,
、 stops should be provided limiting the angular movement to15 either side of the horizontal (seeFigure 2). 6) BS 51, “Wrought iron for general engineering purposes (Grades A, B, C and D)”. 7) BS 970, “Wrought steels in the form of bars, billets, and forgings, up to6in ruling section, for automobile a
