ThemotivationforthisENVderivesfromacombinationofthefollowingfactors: ElectronicmessagesdevelopedintheHealthcareInformaticsdomaincontainsensitivehealthcareinformation aboutspecifiedindividualsthatrequ
34、iresahighlevelofconfidencebothinthepartiessendingandreceiving messagesandthattheinformationbeingmadeavailableisunchanged.Standardsarerequiredtofacilitate electronictransferofbloodtransfusionrelatedmessagesandreportsbetweenthemanysystemscurrentlyused. Informationtransferredinthebloodtransfusionrelate
35、dmessagesandanyreportspassingbetweenhealthcare partiesformpartoftheinformationsystemofeachofthecommunicatingparties.Electronictransferofthese bloodtransfusionrelatedmessagesandreportsreducestheneedformanualentryandtheriskoftranscription errors.Italsoresultsingreaterefficiencyleadingtobetterhealthcar

ThisENVhasbeendevelopedfollowingthemethodsrecommendedintheCENReporton“MedicalInformatics Methodologyforthedevelopmentofhealthcaremessages“(CR12587:1996).However,inaccordwiththe decisionsofCENTC251WGI,adifferentmodellingtechniquehasbeenused.ThisisasubsetoftheUnified ModellingLanguage(UML)

ThisENVspecifiesmessagesinasyntaxindependentform.Itsrequirementsforconformancedefinethe minimumacceptablecontentandstructureforthesemessages.Compliantmessagescanbedevelopedina varietyofimplementationsyntaxesandthesesyntaxspecificimplementationsmaybethesubjectoffuture Standards.
