Sawcuts are made systematically in the selected ingots and the resulting sawings are combined. Analysis samples are obtained by splitting the aggregated sample. B.

37、ease. Clean the sample ingots by scratch brushing the surface, using the steel wire brush (B.2.1). Then use the soft brush (B.2.2) to remove any loose or detached surface contaminants. B.3.3 Sawing the sample ingots Saw each sample ingot individually by the following procedure. Clamp the ingot in th

38、e vice of the hacksaw (B.2.3). Make three sawcuts through the complete cross-section of the ingot at sites one-quarter, two-quarters and three-quarters of the length L of the ingot, collecting all the resulting sawings seeFigure B.1a). If any oil is likely to be present, clean the sawings thoroughly

39、 in the degreasing solvent (B.2.5). Remove any free iron with the magnet (B.2.4). NOTE 1The two outer sawcuts should not be made through the end lugs of the ingot. If any sample ingot has end lugs which are longer than one-quarter the length of the ingot, the two outer sawcuts should be made closer

40、to the centre-cut, such that the full cross-section of the ingot is sampled seeFigure B.1b). NOTE 2Do not use lubricant in making the sawcuts, except where experience shows it will not vitiate sampling. NOTE 3If the ingots are of a size, or shape, which is such that the procedure described is not pr

41、acticable, then an appropriate, systematic sawing procedure should be followed, which in cases of dispute should be agreed between the disputing parties. In this procedure the pattern of sawcuts should be made through the full cross-section of each sample ingot. The sawings so produced should be suf

Combine and mix all the sawings, to give a sample of sawings representative of the whole batch of ingots. B.3.4 Obtaining t
