27、nimumconditionunlessprescribed otherwisebythatstandard.Breathingaircontainingadefinedconcentrationofcarbondioxideissuppliedata specifiedratefromabreathingmachinetoadummyhead/torso.Theinhaledairisanalysedforcarbondioxide content. Thecarbondioxidelevelmeasuredgivesanassessmentofthe“deadspace“oftheface

28、pieceratherthana“real life“measurementofthelevelofcarbondioxideintheinhaledair. 5.2 Testequipment 5.2.1General AtypicaltestarrangementusingasinglecylinderbreathingmachineisshowninFigure1. Thetotaldeadspaceofthegaspathofthetestinstallation,excludingthevolumeofthebreathingmachine,shall notexceed2000ml

Thetestshallbecarriedoutatambientconditions. 5.2.2 Breathingmachine Abreathingmachineandassociatedequipmentwithsolenoidvalvescontrolledbythebreathingmachine.Inorder toavoiderrorsinthemeasurementofcarbondioxideintheinhaledair,itisimportantthatthesolenoidvalvesmake agoodsealonclosingandthatthetiming

30、oftheiractionallowsnooverlaptooccur. 5.2.3 Carbondioxidesamplingarrangement Asampleoftheinhaledairistakenbyanauxiliarylungdrivenbythebreathingmachineandinphasewithit.Itis settoinhaleaknownsamplevolume(achosenpercentageoftheinhalationvolumeofthebreathingmachine) duringtheinhalationstrokeofthebreathin

31、gmachine.Thisapparent“loss“ininhalationvolumeofthebreathing machineiscompensatedforbythevolumeofcarbondioxidefedviatheflowmeterintothebreathingmachineon itsinhalationstroke.Itisthereforeimportantthatthesetwovolumesareequal. Theexhaledairiscontinuouslymonitoredforcarbondioxidecontentataflowdetermined

32、bytheanalyser.The samplepointisimmediatelybeforethesolenoidvalveintheexhalationcircuit.Tomaintainequilibriumthesample isreturnedtothecircuitupstreamofthesamplepoint. Thecarbondioxideabsorberisnecessarytopreventbuildupofcarbondioxideinthetestequipmentcircuit.The compensatorsallowconstantconditionstob

33、emaintainedforparticularpartsofthetestcircuit. 5.2.4 Sheffieldhead/torso Sheffieldheadfittedwithconcentrictubesandcentralcarbondioxidesamplingtube,showninFigure2.Wherea torsoisfitted,thetubesaredirecteddownthenecksectiontoexitfromthetorsoataconvenientpointasshownin FigureA.2.Theextravolumeofthisarra

34、ngementshouldbeborneinmind(see5.2.1).EN132746:2001(E) 6 Theendoftheconcentrictubesislevelwiththetop“lip“ofthedummyheadandtheendofthesampletubeislevel withtheendoftheconcentrictubes. ThearrangementforsettingupandtestinghoodeddeviceswhichsealaroundtheneckisgiveninannexA. 5.2.5Auxiliary fan Inordertoen

35、surethatthedeviceinhaleslaboratoryaircontainingaminimumlevelofcarbondioxide,anauxiliary fanisarrangedsothatitblowstheexhaledairemergingfromthedeviceawayfromthedeviceinlet.Thefanis arrangedtodeliverairat0,5m/swhenmeasuredatapoint50mminfrontofthedeviceinlet. NOTE Theauxiliaryfanarrangementisnotrequire

36、dwhencarryingouttestsondeviceswhichhavetheirownindependent airsupply(pressedairlinedevices). 5.2.6 Carbondioxidesamplingofambientair Itisnecessarytoassessthelevelofcarbondioxideinthelaboratoryairintheimmediatevicinityofthedeviceinlet. Thisisachievedbyusingasampleprobeplacedatapoint50mminfrontofthede

37、viceinlet.Theprobeis connectedtotheauxiliarylungusedformeasuringdeadspace.Itsamplesduringtheinhalationphaseofthe breathingmachineatthesamesamplerateasusedtomeasurethecarbondioxideintheinhalationair. 5.3 Procedureformeasurementofcarbondioxideininhalationair 5.3.1 Confirmwhetherthedevicestandardrequir

38、esbreathingmachinesettingsandexhaledcarbondioxide levelswhichleadtosamplevolumesdifferenttothosespecifiedinthefollowingprocedure.Anexampleofthe calculationnecessaryfordifferentrequirementsisgivenin5.3.10. 5.3.2 FitthefacepieceorcompleteequipmentasdirectedbythedevicestandardtotheSheffieldhead/torsoas

39、 appropriate,andoperatethedeviceinitsminimumdesignconditiondefinedinthedevicestandard.Ensureasfar aspossiblethatexhaledairfromthedevice(whichduringsubsequenttestingwillcontain5%carbondioxide)is notrebreathedbythedevice. 5.3.3 ConnectthebreathingcircuittotheSheffielddummyhead/torso. 5.3.4 Switchonthe

40、breathingmachine(andwithittheauxiliarylungandvalves)andoperateat25cyclesper minute and2,0l/stroke. 5.3.5 Switchontheauxiliaryfan(ifappropriate)andadjusttheairvelocityto0,5m/satapoint50mminfrontof thedeviceinlet(s),ensuringthattheairisdirectedawayfromthedeviceinlet(s). 5.3.6 Adjustthecarbondioxidesup

41、plyintothebreathingmachineto2,5l/min(i.e.acarbondioxide concentrationequivalentto5%ofthevolumeoftheexhalationstrokeofthebreathingmachine)viaacontrolvalve (iffitted),theflowmeter,compensatingbagandnonreturnvalves.Checkthecarbondioxideconcentrationinthe exhaledaironadrybasisandadjustasnecessarytoachie

42、veastabilisedlevelof5%. 5.3.7 Drawoffasampleoftheinhaledairduringtheinhalationphasebytheauxiliarylungsetatarateof100ml displacement/stroke(i.e.5%ofthevolumeoftheinhalationstrokeofthebreathingmachine). Measurethecarbondioxideconcentrationinthesamplebymeansoftheanalyser.Continuethetestuntilasteady val

43、ueisobtained.Recordthisvalueastheuncorrectedlevelofcarbondioxideintheinhaledair. 5.3.8 Continuethetestandmeasuretheambientcarbondioxidelevel50mminfrontoftheinlet(s)tothedevice. Takethemeasureonceastabilisedlevelforcarbondioxideintheinhalationairhasbeenattained.Thereference levelshallbelessthan0,1%.Fordeviceswithanindependentairsupply,thecarbondioxidelevelinthesupplyair shallbelessthan0,1%. 5.3.9 Subtracteitherthelaboratoryambientcarbondioxidelevelorthatintheindependentairsupply,as appropriate,fromthemeasu
