21、E) 4 Introduction ThisEuropeanStandardspecifiesamethodforthedeterminationofthetotalmassconcentrationofspecific elementsinfluegasesofwasteincinerators.DuringtheestablishmentofthisEuropeanStandardfieldtestswere performedinordertodeterminesomeperformancecharacteristics.Thesetestsshowedthatinthe“gaseous
22、” phasemostoftheelementscannotbedeterminedquantitativelyintheabsorptionsolutions.Therefore,theresults ofthismethodareexpressedasthetotalelementmassconcentrations(i.e.sumofgaseous,dissolvedindroplets, solidandadsorbedonparticles).Thismeansthatwhenthespecificelementsaremainlyinthesolidphaseno signific
23、antlosses(biases)shouldoccurduetothepoorabsorptionefficiencyfortheelementsinthegaseous phase.Thequalitycheckrequirementforapprovaloftheresultsisthemassinthelastabsorberexpressedasa minimumpercentageofthetotalmass;thisminimumissetataratherhighlevel,basedontheexperiencesofthe absorptionefficienciesint
24、hefieldtests. WhenthisEuropeanStandardisappliedforconditionsthataredifferentfromthoseinvestigatedduringthefield testsatmunicipalwasteincinerators,theresultsmaynotbethesameasexperiencedduringthesefieldtests described.
