Leaflets prepared in accordance with this standard need not form but m

、rticular type of equipment, e.g. a television transmitter or a transposer for frequency-modulated sound broadcasting. The general characteristics cover electrical and other characteristics which can have an effect on the performance of the equipment; they shall include the following technical inform

、ation: a) functional description of the various items of equipment including block diagrams, where appropriate; b) layout of the equipment and constructional details, including dimensions and weights, of the individual items and ancillary equipment required for normal operation; c) figures about coo

、ling and means and quality of coolant; d) characteristics affecting the environment, e.g.heat dissipation in the transmitter room and acoustic noise; e) type designation of the equipment and individual items, where applicable; f) number and type designation of thermionic tubes used in power stages.

、Some characteristics and/or technical information may not be appropriate to all types of equipment, e.g. low power transmitters. Additional characteristics, other than those mentioned in this standard, may be included in a particular leaflet. As far as practicable, the definitions given in this stan

、dard are in accordance with those of the various parts of IEC Publication 244. It should be noted, however, that the definitions are intended for the guidance of authors and should not in general appear in the actual leaflets. Section 1. General characteristics applicable to all categories of transm

、itters and transposers 4 Introduction The general characteristics described in this section are listed in Table I of IEC Publication 244-12-2. Where appropriate, reference is made in Table I to the standardized methods of measurement and test signals described in other IEC publications. 5 Characteri

、stics 5.1 Transmission system The transmission system(s) the transmitter or transposer is capable of handling shall be stated and be designated in accordance with the latest issue of the relevant CCIR Recommendation or Report, e.g.: for television: CCIR Report 624; for FM sound broadcasting: CCIR Re

、commendation 450; for AM sound broadcasting: CCIR Report 458. 5.2 Frequency range The frequency range refers to the frequency band (orbands) in which the transmitter or transposer is capable of operating. The following details shall be specified: the lower and upper limits of the frequency band (or

、bands), expressed in kHz or MHz;EN 60244-12-1:1993 4 BSI 12-1999 information on any frequency dependent components or sub-assemblies in the equipment that shall be replaced or modified to cover the above specified frequency range; the way in which the carrier frequency is generated and whether an ex

、ternal drive may be used instead; for transposers, the frequency range for reception and for transmission, together with any input and output frequency combinations which shall be avoided; if applicable, the switching time (min. and max.) for a frequency change for transmitters which operate in diff

、erent bands or in different frequencies within a band (see short wave transmitters). 5.3 Carrier frequency stability The carrier frequency stability shall be specified as the difference, expressed in Hz between the highest and the lowest value of carrier frequency during the following periods of tim

、e: 1 h for short-term stability, and six months for long-term stability. For a television transmitter, the stability of both sound and vision carriers shall be given. For a transposer, the frequency transposition stability shall be given. 5.4 Intermediate frequencies If the modulation or conversion

、process is carried out at intermediate frequencies, the intermediate frequency or frequencies shall be stated. 5.5 Rated output power (rated output power range) The rated output power (or rated output power range) is the power (or the range of the power) that the transmitter or transposer shall deli

、ver at its output under specified conditions of operation. The rated output power, expressed in W or kW, shall be stated as follows: for television transmitters and transposers: the peak envelope power of the vision signal; for FM sound transmitters and transposers: the power of the unmodulated carr

、ier; for double-sideband AM sound transmitters: the power of the unmodulated carrier; for single-sideband AM sound transmitters: the peak envelope power. In this last case, the degree of carrier reduction, expressed in dB relative to peak envelope power, shall also be specified. 5.6 Nominal load imp

、edance The nominal load impedance, i.e. the nominal value of the radio-frequency impedance into which the transmitter or transposer shall deliver its rated output power, shall be specified. 5.7 Load impedance mismatch The voltage standing wave ratio presented by the radio-frequency load impedance mi

、smatch concerns both: a) the maximum V.S.W.R. up to which the transmitter or transposer is capable of operating within the performance specifications; b) the maximum V.S.W.R. for which the transmitter or transposer is capable of operating without damage or without the intervention of a protective de

、vice. Both values shall be specified. 5.8 Nominal input impedance The nominal input impedance, i.e. the nominal value of the impedance presented at the input connector (or connectors) of the transmitter or transposer, shall be specified in ohms, balanced or unbalanced. If a high-impedance audio-freq

、uency input is used, the reactive part of the impedance shall also be given. 5.9 Nominal input impedance mismatch The nominal input impedance mismatch relates to the mismatch measured at the input connector (orconnectors) for any frequency within the audio-frequency or video-frequency bandwidth, or the radio-frequency channel bandwidth. It is expressed in terms of the ratio of the incident wave to the reflected wave. The minimum value of this ratio shall be stated in decibels. 5.10 Nominal inp
