、both indoor and outdoors. Hand-held electric motor-operated circular saws that can be mounted on a support for use as fixed tools, without any fundamental alterations of the circular saw itself, are within the scope of this standard. Circular saw attachments and cut-off discs are not covered by this

、 standard. The object of this standard is to state and define the principal performance characteristics of circular saws that are of interest to the user and to describe the standardized methods for measuring these characteristics. This standard does not deal with safety requirements nor does it pre

、scribe limits of acceptance for performance. Safety requirements for hand-held electric circular saws are covered by IEC745-2-5. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this International Standard. At

、 the time of publication of this standard, the editions indicated were valid. All normative documents are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents

、 carried out at rated voltage with a tolerance of 1% and, if applicable, at rated frequency. Saws designed for d.c. only shall be measured with d.c. Saws designed for a.c. and d.c. shall be measured with a.c. Saws not marked with rated frequency shall be measured either at50Hz or at60Hz according to

、 usage in the country where the machine is employed. For saws with a rated voltage range, the measurements shall be carried out at the mean value of the voltage range if the difference between the limits of the range does not exceed10% of the mean value of the voltage range. If the difference betwee

、n the limits exceeds10% of the mean value, the measurements shall be carried out at both the upper and the lower limit of the range. NOTEIf the rated voltage or the mean of the voltage range differs from the nominal voltage system of the country concerned where the saw is to be used, measurements ca

、rried out at rated voltage or the mean of the voltage range may be misleading for the consumer. In this case additional measurements may be necessary. If the test voltage differs from the rated voltage, this shall be reported. 4.2.3 Number of samples In order to prevent determination of the performa

、nce of a saw from a sample having variations, the following measurements shall be carried out on two samples: input under no load condition; speed under load that gives rated input. NOTE 1If the values measured are within5% of the mean value, one of the samples can be used for the remaining measurem

NOTE 2An additional sample may be used for the life test. 4.2.4 Rated input The measurements shall be carried out at rated input with a tolerance of 1%. 4.2.5 Relative humidity This shall be maintained within45% and75%. 5 Methods of measurement 5.1 No load speed The no load speed is determined

、 after the saw fitted with an imitation blade, has been operating idle for15min (disconnected from any connecting device with the brake). NOTEA deviation of 15% on rated no load speed can be expected between the various samples. 5.2 Loaded speed The loaded speed is determined after the saw has been

、operating for30min at rated voltage, and with the load that gives rated input. NOTEA deviation of 10% on loaded speed can be expected between the various samples.EN 61176:1993 6 BSI 01-2000 5.3 Output Loaded speeds and torques are measured at rated input. Output is calculated according to the formul

、a: 5.4 Efficiency The efficiency is calculated according to the formula: 5.5 Dimensions Length, width and height are measured in millimetres. These dimensions are measured for minimum cutting depth and straight cut in the resting position (guard in closed position). They exclude the flexible cord, p

、lug and cord protector. Measurements are made parallel and perpendicular to the spindle axis and the guide plate as shown inFigure 1. 5.6 Cutting depth The cutting depth is measured from the bottom of the guide plate to the tangent to the outside circumference of the imitation blade parallel to the

、guide plate. The maximum and minimum cutting depths are measured for straight cut and for the maximum inclination angle of the blade. 5.7 Cutting accuracy 5.7.1 Parallelism between the guide plate edge and the plane of the saw blade is measured by fitting the imitation blade and measuring the angle!

、 between the edge of the guide plate and this blade, as shown inFigure 2, with the blade rotated to give maximum angle. 5.7.2 Axial run-out is checked by measuring the total deviation on the imitation blade for360 rotation of the blade, as shown inFigure 3, for any possible position of the inner fla

、nge. The measurement is made5mm from the edge of the disc. 5.7.3 Accuracy of the indication of cutting angle by the index is checked by comparing the value of the index indicator with the angle obtained with a cut into a piece of wood maximum10mm thinner than the indicated depth, as shown inFigure 4

、. This test shall be carried out at angles of0,30,45 and at the maximum cutting angle. 5.7.4 When the depth index forms a part of the saw, accuracy of indication of depth is checked by comparing the index indication with a blind cut into a piece of wood thicker than the indicated depth. 5.7.5 Accura

、cy of the blade position indicator. The saw being adjusted for a straight cut and being guided by the edge of the guide plate along a straight edge, a blind cut of10mm depth is made. The position of the index to the cut is noted after moving the saw backwards while, taking into account the indicatio

、ns given in the instruction sheet. 5.8 Ability to cut near obstacles 5.8.1 The ability to cut along walls is determined by measuring the minimum distance between the median plan of the imitation blade to the plan passing by the closest part of the saw, or the side of the guide plate, with the blade set for a straight cut as shown inFigure 5. where n is the loaded speed in revolutions per minute (rev/min) T is the torque in newton-meter (N.m) p out is the output in watts (W) where p in is the input in watts (W) p
