19、reservation of signal polarity, together with methods of test which are not already included in other standards. It is based on, and consistent with, the relevant text in IEC268-2, and the connector applications standardized in IEC268-11 and IEC268-12. NOTEPolarity characteristics of audio transduce

Amendment1(1991) 3 General For explanations of terms, general characteristics to be specified and methods of measurement, reference is required to IEC268-2. The preservation of signal polarity in audio recording
24、and processing equipment is important for two main reasons: a) the polarity relationship between channels of a stereo pair or multichannel set of signals is of fundamental importance in the correct re-creation of the sound field; b) some audio signals are significantly asymmetrical, and polarity inv
25、ersion can be detected, at least in critical listening conditions. 4 Preservation of overall polarity in audio recording and processing equipment 4.1 Requirements When set for normal operation (see note), equipment with audio recording and reproduction facilities and equipment with audio processing
26、facilities (except as described in4.2) shall preserve polarity from inputs to outputs, with reference to the signal polarities specified for connector applications given in IEC268-11 and/or IEC268-12. NOTEFor the purposes of this subclause, “normal operation” means that polarity inversion facilities
27、 and inverting inputs are not used. 4.2 Polarity inversion facilities The provision of polarity inversion facilities (including self-contained “inverting units”) and/or inverting inputs is permitted, provided they are marked in accordance with the requirements of IEC268-2. NOTERecordings made with d
28、eliberate polarity inversion of one channel (for artistic effect, for example) should be labelled, or include a voice message, in explanation. 5 Direction of magnetization of analogue baseband audio recordings 5.1 Requirements The direction of magnetization due to a positive-going signal applied at
29、a non-inverting input of the recorder shall be the same as the direction of motion of the tape. It is, however, difficult to measure the direction of magnetization of the tape directly. The procedure adopted is therefore to specify that the polarity of response of the reproduce chain from the reprod
30、uce head to the output, measured in accordance with5.2, shall be non-inverting, and then to specify that the polarity of signal connection for the record head shall be such that the requirements of4.1 are met. The requirements of this subclause are then automatically met. 5.2 Method of test With ref
31、erence to Figure 1, an asymmetrical current is passed through a single conductor placed close to the reproduce head, the relationship between the positive direction of current and the direction of tape travel being as shown in Figure 1. A positive-going signal shall then be obtained at the positive
32、polarity output terminal of the reproduce amplifier, as specified in IEC268-11 or IEC268-12.EN61213:1994 4 BSI 01-2000 6 Polarity of deviation of frequency-modulation of audio signals in FM recording Unless otherwise specified in the standard applying to the recording system, a positive-going audio
