The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical Committee EPL/86, Fibre optics, to Subcommittee EPL/86/2, Interconnecting devices and passive components, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to understand the text;

4、 present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK. 5、ee can be obtained on request to its secretary. From1 January1997, all IEC publications have the number60000 added to the old number. For instance, IEC27-1 has been renumbered as IEC60027-1. For a period of time during the change over from one numbering system to the other, publications may contain

21、adiation on the materials of a fibre optic device. It is intended to simulate the radiation experienced at the surface of the earth. 1.2 General description This procedure is conducted in accordance with IEC68-2-5, test Sa. The specimen is subjected to an irradiance of1,120kW/m 2with a prescribed sp

22、ectral distribution. The test includes three methods differing in the irradiation cycle times. WARNING NOTEIntended users of solar radiation tests are cautioned regarding the health hazards associated with tests of this nature. IEC68-2-9, clause9 deals with this subject. 1.3 Normative references The

IEC68-2-9:1975, Environmental testing Part2:Tests Guidance for solar radiation testing. 2 Apparatus The apparatus shall be as specified in IEC68-2-5, test Sa. 3 Procedure 3.1 Conditioning Conduct the test in accordance with IEC68-2-5, test Sa. The preparation of the specimen shall b

26、e in accordance with the detail specification. Unless otherwise specified, the specimen shall be subjected to the test in a non-operational mode. 3.1.1 Method A A24h cycle, with8h of irradiation and16h of darkness, repeated as specified. This results in a total irradiation of8,96kWh/m 2per diurnal c

27、ycle and approximates the most severe natural conditions. 3.1.2 Method B A24h cycle, with20h of irradiation and4h of darkness, repeated as specified. This results in a total irradiation of22,4kWh/m 2per diurnal cycle. 3.1.3 Method C Continuous irradiation for specified duration. 3.2 Post-conditionin

28、g Upon completion of the test, the specimen shall be examined and all necessary observations recorded as specified in the detail specification. 4 Severity The severity consists of the duration of exposure.
