The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical Committee EPL/86, Fibre optics, to Subcommittee EPL/86/2, Interconnecting devices and passive components, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to understand

4、 the text; present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK. 5、subcommittee can be obtained on request to its secretary. From 1 January 1997, all IEC publications have the number60000 added to the old number. For instance, IEC27-1 has been renumbered as IEC60027-1. For a period of time during the change over from one numbering system to the other, publications

20、32:1997 BSI 04-2000 3 1 General 1.1 Scope and object The purpose of this part of IEC1300 is to determine the suitability of closures for use in wet environments including underwater submersion. The test is suitable for closures only. 1.2 General description Dry air, nitrogen or helium with a moistur

21、e content of less than5ppm is passed through a submerged closure at a rate of between20ml/min and50ml/min and then through a hygrometer until a steady reading at the hygrometer is obtained. The difference of the moisture content of the incoming gas (r 1 ) and on the gas exiting the closure (r 2 ) is

22、 then translated into a water vapour permeation rate, expressed as4g/h. 2 Apparatus The apparatus is shown in Figure 1 and consists of the following elements. 2.1 Water tank A water tank capable of maintaining a temperature of 1 C within the range of10 C to60 C. 2.2 Hygrometer A device to measure th

23、e moisture content of the incoming and exiting gas. 2.3 Gas supply Dry gas supply (air, nitrogen or helium with a humidity of less than5ppm). 2.4 Plugs Metal plugs for the closure which have connections for the gas supply lines. 3 Procedure 3.1 Assemble the closure with the metal plugs and gas suppl

24、y lines. 3.2 Submerge the closure in the water bath. 3.3 Connect the dry gas source directly to the hygrometer and obtain a steady-state value of the moisture content (r 1 ) at the flow rate to be used during the test. 3.4 Direct the gas through the closure and obtain a steady-state value of the moi

25、sture content (r 2 ) of the gas flowing through the closure at the same rate used to obtain the initial reading (r 1 ). 3.5 The difference in moisture content between the incoming gas (r 1 ) and the outgoing gas (r 2 ) is then translated into a vapour permeation rate expressed in4g/h. 4 Severity The
