7、ies the requirements for survivor location lights for fitting to liferafts used in airborne applications. BS G247 is published in the following separate Parts: Part 1: Specification for lifejacket lights; Part 2: Specification for liferaft lights. Liferaft lights enable survivors to be located quick

8、ly during the hours of darkness and their failure to operate could jeopardize survival. It is essential, therefore, that good design and manufacturing practices are applied to the production of this equipment. It has been assumed in the drafting of this BritishStandard that the execution of its prov

9、isions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people. The approving authority referred to in this standard is the body responsible for authorizing the manufacturer or supplier to issue certification, when “to certify” means to attest as meeting a standard. WARNING. This BritishStand

10、ard calls for the use of substances and procedures that may be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. It refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health and safety at any stage. A British Standard does not purport to in

13、esign, performance, testing and quality requirements for survivor locator lights for fitting to liferafts used in airborne applications. 2 Normative references This Part of BS G247 incorporates, by reference, provisions from specific editions of other publications. These normative references are cit

14、ed at the appropriate points in the text and the publications are listed on the inside back cover. Subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, any of these publications apply to this Part of BS G247 only when incorporated in it by updating or revision. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of B

15、S G247 the following definitions apply. 3.1 storage life the period during which the unit may be stored, under specified conditions, and still meet all performance requirements in use 3.2 light unit a complete assembly comprising light source, cabling, battery and associated components 3.3 primary b

16、attery a source of electrical energy obtained by the direct conversion of chemical energy NOTEWhen ready for delivery, a primary battery includes terminals and may include a case. The word “battery” can refer to one single complete cell. 3.4 active battery a battery which is completely self-containe

17、d and requires no initiating action before delivering current 3.5 reserve battery a battery which requires initiating action, usually that of introducing electrolyte, before delivering current 3.6 discharge a procedure by which a cell or battery delivers current to an external circuit 3.7 end-point

18、voltage (V e ) the on-load voltage of a light unit battery at the end of discharge 4 Individual specification sheet The manufacturer shall prepare an individual specification sheet, conforming to Annex A, for each type of light unit produced. The individual specification sheet shall define the value

19、s for parameters given in Annex A. 5 Design 5.1 Construction Light units shall be constructed to conform to clauses5 to8. 5.2 Materials Materials used in the manufacture of light units shall be: a) compatible with the materials used in the manufacture of liferafts; and b) rot and corrosion resistant

20、 and unaffected by sea water, oil or fungal attack. 5.3 Attachment The light unit shall be capable of removal and replacement without causing damage to a liferaft, and shall not have any adverse effect on the performance of a liferaft to which it is attached. 5.4 Reflectors and lenses Lenses or curv

21、ed reflectors, if fitted, shall conform to6.2.3. 5.5 Electronic components Components of electronic circuits shall either: a) conform to the quality control requirements of BS9000-1:1989; or, b) in cases where components conforming to this standard cannot be obtained, be covered by a Certificate of

22、Conformity from the manufacturer of the components. 5.6 Battery If a lithium battery is selected as the power source, it shall conform to the design requirements given in clause 6 of BS2G239:1992 when it is contained within the liferaft light unit. WARNING. Some lithium batteries can be hazardous un

23、der certain conditions. 5.7 Switching Light units shall switch on automatically upon the inflation of the liferaft on water, and shall be able to be switched off manually.BSG247-2:1995 2 BSI 01-2000 NOTEReserve batteries may be designed to switch off by removal of the battery from the electrolyte or

24、 initiating medium. 5.8 Servicing The light unit shall include the means to show that it has not been operated during its specified storage life. 6 Performance 6.1 Environmental 6.1.1 Operational temperature range When tested in accordance withB.1 andB.2, the light unit shall operate as specified in

25、6.2 throughout the following temperature ranges: a) for active batteries unless immersed in water,30 C to+65 C; b) for active or reserve batteries mounted on the liferaft such that they are immersed,1 C to+30 C. 6.1.2 Temperature Following storage within the temperature range30 C to+70 C, the light

26、shall exhibit no sign of physical distress and shall conform to6.2. 6.1.3 Drop When tested in accordance withB.3, the light unit shall not be damaged, and shall remain fully functional. 6.1.4 Acceleration When tested in accordance withB.4, the light unit shall show no signs of damage or leaks, and s

27、hall remain fully functional. 6.1.5 Vibration When tested in accordance withB.5, the light unit shall show no signs of damage or leaks, and shall remain fully functional. 6.1.6 Immersion When tested in accordance withB.6, the light unit shall show no signs of damage or leakage, and shall remain full

28、y functional. 6.1.7 Altitude When tested in accordance with either BS3G100-2.3.2:1970 or BS3G299:1993 (EUROCAE ED-14C/RTCA D0160C 1)section4.6), the light unit shall not be adversely affected over the altitude pressure range106.94kPa at457m(1500ft) to9.12kPa at+16760m(+55000ft). 6.2 Illumination 6.2

29、1 Endurance The light shall provide the output specified in6.2.3 throughout the temperature ranges specified in6.1.1, for a continuous period of not less than12h. 6.2.2 Start-up times The output specified in6.2.3 shall be obtained after the following immersion times. a) Reserve batteries: 1) 5min i

30、n sea water at1 C; 2) 5min in sea water at+30 C; 3) 10min in fresh water at+20 C. b) Active batteries: Active batteries shall achieve the output specified in6.2.3 within5min of deployment under all conditions. 6.2.3 Light output 6.2.3.1 General A light which has completed the endurance test specifie

31、d in6.2.1 shall provide a light output conforming to either6.2.3.2 (continuous beam) or6.2.3.3 (flashing light). 6.2.3.2 Continuous beam The light unit shall provide light in a horizontal beam subtending an angle of at least10 vertically and360 horizontally, with a luminous intensity not less than0.

32、75cd. NOTEThis is equivalent to the output of a light that is clearly visible, on a dark night with a clear atmosphere, at a range of2nautical miles over land or sea. 6.2.3.3 Flashing light The light unit shall emit a flashing light which shall flash at a rate of not less than50flashes/min and not m

33、ore than70flashes/min. Each flash shall have an effective luminous intensity of not less than4.3cd, measured in any direction above the horizontal. NOTEThe effective luminous intensity may be taken as: 1) Available for examination at the BSI Library,389Chiswick High Road, London W44AL, or available

35、Blondel-Rey constant, in s.BSG247-2:1995 BSI 01-2000 3 6.3 Storage life When tested in accordance with Annex C, the storage life, from the date of manufacture, of an unpacked light unit shall be as specified on the individual specification sheet (seeAnnex A). 7 Type approval 7.1 General 7.1.1 Type a

36、pproval of a light unit shall be in accordance with the tests given in Annex B, Annex C and Annex D. The manufacturer shall demonstrate to the satisfaction of the approving authority 2)that the unit conforms to this BritishStandard and to any other relevant specification or requirement issued by the

37、 approving authority. 7.1.2 Except for lights used in safety tests (seeAnnex D), units submitted for type approval testing shall be manufactured to the build standard defined in the individual specification sheet (seeAnnex A) and be representative of normal production in every way. 7.2 Type approval

38、 tests 7.2.1 The number of light units subjected to type approval tests shall be in accordance with Annex E. NOTE 1The approving authority will signify type approval of the light unit by the issue of the appropriate certification. NOTE 2The approving authority may, on a discretionary basis, grant an

39、 approval before the completion of the storage tests (seeAnnex C) on the basis of an appropriate technical submission. 7.2.2 Unless otherwise specified in a given test, all tests shall be carried out at ambient temperature, pressure and humidity. Where test parameters are specified, the values given

40、 shall be subject to the following tolerances: a) for temperature, 2 C; b) for pressure,1kPa; c) for relative humidity, 10%. 7.2.3 Unless otherwise specified in a given test, the equipment used for the type approval tests shall have a range appropriate to the quantity being measured, and the followi

41、ng minimum degree of accuracy: a) for thermometers, 1 C; b) for chronometers, 0.5% for periods between10s and24h; c) for photometers, 5% absolute; d) voltmeters shall conform to class index0.3 of BS89-2:1990. 7.2.4 Fresh water shall have a conductivity not greater than5004S/m. 7.2.5 Sea water shall

42、be artificial sea water conforming to BS3900-F4:1968. 7.3 Maintenance of approval When approval has been granted, no change shall be made to the design without prior approval of the approving authority. 7.4 Preparation for test 7.4.1 Light units selected for test shall have been manufactured not les

43、s than4weeks and not more than12weeks prior to the commencement of testing and shall have been stored at a temperature of(20 5) C during the intervening period. No cell or battery shall be older than6months at the date of manufacture of the light unit. 7.4.2 Unless otherwise specified in a given tes

44、t, light units shall be preconditioned at the temperature specified in the test for not less than16h and not more than24h prior to commencement of any test, and the specified temperature shall be maintained throughout the test period. 8 Identification and marking The following information shall be c

45、learly and indelibly marked on the light unit: a) the manufacturers name or trade mark; b) the manufacturers type or part number; c) the batch number or other means of identifying the unit; d) the date of manufacture and date of expiry; e) in block capitals, the words “CAUTION: DO NOT INCINERATE REF

46、ER TO INDIVIDUAL SPECIFICATION SHEET FOR DISPOSAL”; f) if the power source is a lithium battery, the words “LITHIUM BATTERY” in block capitals. 9 Quality assurance 9.1 Quality plan The manufacturer shall prepare a quality plan defining the procedures for the inspection of materials, components and c

47、ompleted assemblies in the course of manufacture of each specified light unit. The quality plan shall be agreed with the approving authority. 2) For UK civil aviation products, the approving authority is the Civil Aviation Authority or an organization approved by them. For UK military products, info

48、rmation is available from the Procurement Executive, Ministry of Defence, Directorate General of Defence Quality Assurance, Directorate of Standardization.BSG247-2:1995 4 BSI 01-2000 9.2 Quality control Light units shall be subjected to tests under the following three categories. a) category A, non-

49、destructive tests to be applied to all light units produced. b) category B, lot by lot sample tests to be applied to light units randomly selected from production lots prior to release. c) category C, longer term tests to be carried out after every tenth lot. The individual specification sheet (seeAnnex A) shall state which categories of tests are to be carried out on each type of light unit, the sample quantities required and the acceptable quality levels. 9.3 Records The manufacturer shall maintain records which demonstrate the effective
