It supersedes BS ISO 5433:1999 which is withdrawn.It is considered the view of the UK committee that the ap
2、plication of this standard to bovine wet blue can be limiting on three counts:1. The requirement for a water extract pH value of greater than 3.5 isconsidered restrictive as tanners are producing high quality bovine wetblue with water extract values of less than 3.5, such as a pH value 3.2.2. It sta
3、tes that a 3.5 % chrome content is required to achieve a 100 C shrinkage temperature. However, this shrinkage temperature is being commercially achieved at a chrome content of 3 %.3. At the request of their customers, tanners are not placing trade namesor names and addresses of the manufacturer on t
4、heir packaging. Thelabelling requirements of the standard do not reflect the commercialrealities that tanners operate within and would require the tanner andcustomer to disclose this information without any perceived benefit.It is acknowledged by the UK committee that this standard can be applied fo
5、r UK commercial transactions and aspects can be used in case of dispute between parties but all parties should be aware of the limitations detailed above for bovine wet blue production.The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee TCI/69, Footwear, leather and coated f

46、ore shanks4 Requirements4.1 Raw materialBovine wet blue hides shall be processed from cured or fresh hides or part hides.4.2 Form and trimming4.2.1 Bovine wet blue hide shall be in one or more of the following forms, as specified by the purchaser:a) whole hides;b) bellies;c) dossets (double backs);d
47、) shoulders;e) butts;f) sides;g) culattas;h) fronts.4.2.2 The trim shall be as agreed between the supplier and purchaser4.3 TanningAfter pretanning operations, bovine hides or part hides shall be tanned with basic chromium sulfate as the primary tanning agent. The cut cross-section shall be such tha
48、t the hide is completely penetrated by the bluish colour of the chromium sulfate when examined visually. Tanning shall be carried out at a pH of 3,0 or above.4.4 Fungicidal additivesFungicides shall be used to inhibit mould growths in bovine wet blue leather.NOTE 1 Fungicides used to inhibit mould g
49、rowth and pigmentation should be effective and should not cause a health hazard.
