The specified chemical composition complies with current practice

8、in the United Kingdom and is similar to that given in FE PM 36. 1 Inspection and testing procedure 1.1 General This British Standard shall be used in conjunction with the relevant sections of the latest issue of BS S 100 as follows: 1.2 Sulfur printing or deep etching tests One sample shall be taken

9、 from each ingot for sulfur printing or deep etching tests. 1.3 Ultrasonic examination The material shall be ultrasonically tested in accordance with the latest issue of BS S 100, Annex B. 2 Manufacture The material shall be manufactured by an electric process. 3 Chemical composition The steel shall

10、 contain: 4 Surface dressing The material shall be overall dressed. Bars for machining delivered in the finally heat treated condition Sections 1 and 3 Forging stock and billets and bars for subsequent working Sections 1 and 5 Forgings Sections 1 and 6 Parts finally heat treated after machining Sect

12、 supplied in the appropriate condition stated below: 5.2 Parts shall be supplied finally heat treated. 6 Heat treatment 6.1 Softening treatment The material shall be softened by heating uniformly at a temperature of not less than 690 C for not less than 2 h, followed by cooling in air. 6.2 Final hea

13、t treatment 6.2.1 The material, parts and test samples shall be heat treated as follows: a) Hardening. Pre-heat to a temperature between of 650C and 700 C and equalize. Heat at a temperature of 1 150 10 C, followed by cooling in oil or air. b) Tempering. Heat uniformly at a temperature between of 65

14、0 C and 700 C for not less than 2 h, followed by cooling in air. 6.2.2 Where bars delivered in the finally heat treated condition have been subjected to a cold straightening or cold rolling operation, they may be given a stress relieving treatment, which shall be sufficient to restore the proof stre

15、ss. 7 Mechanical properties 7.1 Tensile test at room temperature The mechanical properties obtained from test pieces shall be as follows: Note deleted 7.2 Hardness test 7.2.1 The hardness of material heat treated in accordance with 6.1 shall be not greater than 277 HB or 295 HV. 7.2.2 The hardness o

16、f material, parts and test samples heat treated in accordance with 6.2 shall be: 285 min./331 max. HB; or 290 min./345 max. HV.
