CSA standards reflect a national consensus of producers and users including manufacturers, consumers, retailers, unions and professional organizations, and governmental agencies. The stand

5、ards are used widely by industry and commerce and often adopted by municipal, provincial, and federal governments in their regulations, particularly in the fields of health, safety, building and construction, and the environment. Individuals, companies, and associations across Canada indicate their

6、support for CSAs standards development by volunteering their time and skills to CSA Committee work and supporting the Associations objectives through sustaining memberships. The more than 7000 committee volunteers and the 2000 sustaining memberships together form CSAs total membership from which its

7、 Directors are chosen. Sustaining memberships represent a major source of income for CSAs standards development activities. 20、e structures Part 4: Geotechnical and foundation design considerations, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 19901-4 (first edition, 2003-08-01). At the time of publication, ISO 19901-4:2003 is available fro

21、m ISO in English only. CSA will publish the French version when it becomes available from ISO.This Standard specifies that the resistance of foundations be computed by applying a material factor to the soil strength. This differs from the practice in Canada, described in CAN/CSA-S472-04, Foundations

22、 (and ISO/DIS 19902, Petroleum and natural gas industries Fixed steel offshore structures), where a resistance factor is applied to the foundation capacity. Both approaches are used within limit states design and accepted in different parts of the world, but experience with design codes in Canada (i

23、n which both approaches have been tried and tested) has resulted in adoption of the resistance factor approach in general practice. The foundation engineering experience base in Canada, which provides the basis for design codes, is therefore overwhelmingly based on resistance factors. Designers are

24、encouraged to use the existing method based on resistance factors, or the alternative method based on material factors, using sound engineering judgment, precedent, and their own experience, as well as relevant industry experience and due diligence to determine which method is more suitable to a par

25、ticular application.Standards development within the Canadian Offshore Structures sector is harmonized with international standards development. This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the harmonized Canadian Advisory Committee and the CSA Technical Committee to ISO/TC 67/SC 7, Offshore

26、Structures. This Standard has been formally approved by the CSA Technical Committee on Design, Construction, and Installation of Offshore Structures under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steering Committee on Offshore Structures.
