31、ts for Ventilation Materials. It was developed because a fire-resistance test for ventilation ducts has become necessary in order to permit evaluation of ducts and thus prevent fire spread. A fire in an underground mine can be very dangerous because of limited means of escape. potential to spread a

This Standard was prepared by the CSA Technical Committee on Fire-Performance and Antistatic Requirements for Ventilation Materials under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steerin

33、g Committee on Mine Safety and was approved by both Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada. 39、ation Materials 1, Scope 1.1 , This Standard specifies the fire-performance and antistatic requirements for new (unused) ventilation materials for use in underground mines. 1.2 Ventilation materials can be divided into two categories: rigid tubing and flexible sheeting. (The latter can be either use

40、d in the form of hanging sheets or made into tubing.) The physical differences between these two categories require that the tests and requirements be slightly different. The intent of this Standard, however, is to ensure that the fire-performance and antistatic characteristics are evaluated in an e

41、quivalent manner. 1.3 This Standard covers ventilation material of the following types: (a) Type VH-AS, intended for either vertical or horizontal applications in explosive atmospheres; (b) Type VH, intended for either vertical or horizontal applications in nonexplosive atmospheres; (c) Type HAS, in

42、tended for horizontal or near-horizontal applications in explosive atmospheres; (d) Type H, intended for horizontal or near-horizontal applications in nonexplosive atmospheres. Notes: (1 1 The letters V, H, and AS stand for Vertical, Horizontal, and Antistatic respectively. (2) Vertical applications

43、 are the most severe because of the possibllity of a “chimney effect“ accelerating the spread of the fire. 1.4 This Standard does not address the products of combustion or of thermal degradation from ventilation materials subjected to fire or heating, except as noted in Clause 5. Note: While the obj

44、ect of this Standard is to establish a reasonable level of fire-performance for . ventilation materials, it is recognized that any ventilation material may burn under conditions different from those described in this Standard. January 7 99 1 9 CAN/CSA-M427-M9 7 2.1 The following definitions apply in

45、 this Standard: Antistatic (as applied to ventilation material) - the material having sufficient conductance to pass the electrical surface resistance test specified in this Standard. Explosive atmosphere - an atmosphere where ignitable and explosive concentrations of gases, vapours, or dusts may oc

46、cur, and special precautionary measures are prescribed by the appropriate regulatory agency. Fire-performance (as applied to ventilation material) - refers to those characteristics of the material that will meet the criteria of the fire tests specified in this Standard. 3. Requirements 3.1 Classific

47、ation of Ventilation Materials In order to be classified, the ventilation material shall meet all the tests specified for that class of material. 3.2 Type VH-AS 3.2.1 Horizontal Flammability Test When the material is tested in accordance with Clause 4.1, (a) the mean duration of burning in the still

48、-air tests shall not exceed 60 s; (b) the mean duration of burning in the flowing-air tests shall not exceed 60 s; (c the duration of burning shall not exceed 120 s in any single test; and (d) the far end of each sample shall be substantially intact. 3.2.2 Vertical Flammability Test When the sample

49、is tested in accordance with Clause 4.2, (a) it shall have at least the top 100 rnm left structurally competent; and (b) no burning fragments shall fall onto the ground. 3.2.3 Electrical Surface-Resistance Test - Rigid Tubing When the sample is tested in accordance with Clause 4.3, the mean of each set shall not exceed 200 MQ. 3.2.4 Electrical Surface-ResistanceTest - Flexible Materials When the sample is tested in accordance with Clause 4.4, the mean of each set shall not exceed 300 MQ. 3.2.5 Water-Resistance Test 3.2.5.1 When tested in accordance with Clause 4.5, electrical surfa
