14、 Foreword Foreword Canadian Standards Association provides certification services for manufacturers who, under license from CSA, wish to use the appropriate registered CSA Marks on certain products of their manufacture to indicate conformity with CSA Standards. CSA Certification for a number of prod

15、ucts is provided in the interest of maintaining agreed-upon standards of quality, performance, interchangeability, and/or safety, as appropriate. Where applicable, certification may form the basis for acceptance by authorities. Where feasible, programs will be developed for additional products for w

16、hich certification is desired by producers, consumers or other interests. In performing its functions in accordance with its objectives, CSA does not assume or undertake to discharge any responsibility of the manufacturer or any other party. The opinions and findings of the Association represent its

17、 professional judgement given with due consideration to the necessary limitations of practical operation, and the state of the art at the time the Standard is processed. Products in substantial accord with this Standard but which exhibit a minor difference or a new feature may be deemed to meet the

18、Standard providing the feature or difference is found acceptable utilizing appropriate CSA Certification Division Operating Procedures. Products which comply with this Standard shall not be certified if they are found to have additional features which are inconsistent with the intent of this Standar

19、d. Products shall not be certified if they are discovered to contravene applicable Federal laws or regulations. Testing techniques, test procedures, and instrumentation frequently must be prescribed by the CSA Certification Division in addition to the technical requirements contained in Standards of

20、 CSA. Beyond the markings specified in the Standard, the CSA Certification and Testing Division may require special cautions, markings, and instructions that are not specified by the Standard. Some tests required by CSA Standards may be inherently hazardous. The Association neither assumes nor accep

21、ts any responsibility for any injury or damage that may occur during or as the result of tests wherever performed whether performed in whole or in part by the manufacturer or the Association, and whether or not any equipment, facility, or personnel for or in connection with the test is furnished by

22、the manufacturer or the Association. Manufacturers should note that, in the event of the failure of the CSA Certification and Testing Division to resolve an issue arising from the interpretation of requirements, there is an appeal procedure: the complainant should submit the matter, in writing, to t

23、he Secretary of the Canadian Standards Association. Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to solid-state, singl

27、e-phase motor speed controls, rated at 300 V and less, 20 A and less, designed to be used in circuits for the control of shaded pole, permanent split capacitor, or universal motors, and other motors suitable for use with this type of control, intended for use in nonhazardous locations in accordance

28、with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. 1.2 This Standard applies to controls that may incor- porate a switch to place an air gap in series with the motor; and when provided with a series switch, (a) incorporate solid-state components in a phase shift network to provide a controlled voltage outpu

29、t and designed so that (I) Type I: the ON/OFF function is independent of the output voltage setting; or (ii) Type II: the ON/OFF function can be operated at minimum output voltage setting only; or (iii) Type Ill: the ON/OFF function can be operated at maximum output voltage setting only; or (b) (Typ

30、e IV) incorporate solid-state components to provide one or more, but not an infinite number of positions of control. 1.3 This Standard applies to controls intended for (a) flush mounting; (b) surface mounting; (c) use as a table-mounted control to which a portable motor can be temporarily connected;

31、 (d) installation in other equipment as part of the control package for that equipment; (e) permanent installation in the supply line of a motor; or (f) other similar applications within the general outline above. 1.4 This Standard does not apply to resistor, trans- former, and variable frequency ty

32、pe motor speed controls. 2. Definitions 2.1 The following definitions apply in this Standard: Actuating memberthat part which is pulled, pushed, orturned in operating the control mechanism. Controla solid-state, single-phase motor speed control. Field wiring terminala terminal to which power supply,

33、 equipment control leads, or equipment grounding or bonding connections will be made in the field when the control is installed. Liningan insulating material covering the interior surface of the metal cover or enclosure of a control to prevent electrical contact between bare live parts and the cover

34、 or enclosure. Thermoplastica plastic that repeatedly can be softened by heating and hardened by cooling through a temperature range characteristic of the plastic, and which, in the softened state, can be shaped byflow into articles by moulding orextrusion. Thermoseta material that, after having bee

35、n cured by heat or other means, is substantially infusible and insoluble. Type I controla control in which the ON/OFF function is independent of the output voltage setting. Type II controla control in which the ON/OFF function can be operated at the minimum output voltage setting only. Type III cont

36、rola control in which the ON/OFF function can be operated at maximum output voltage setting only. General Requirements 3.1 General requirements applicable to this Standard are given in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, General RequirementsCanadian Electrical Code, Part II. 3.2 Reference Publications 3.2.1 Where reference is made to CSA Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code,

38、Parts / and II, such reference shall be considered to refer to the latest edition and revision thereto, unless otherwise specified. Construction 4.1 General 4.1.1 Electric component parts of controls shall be of types spec

42、ifically approved for the use intended or shall be investigated as an integral part of, and with, the control. 4.1.2 When a control contains components that are covered by other CE Code, Part II Standards, such components shall be suitable for the intended application, and shall (a) be approved; or

43、(b) comply with those requirements of the com- ponent Standard which are pertinent to the intended application. 4.2 Enclosures 4.2.1 Controls shall be provided with complete enclosures that house all bare live parts, except that controls intended specifically for use in devices where they will be so

44、 enclosed as to prevent the exposure of bare live parts to accidental contact, need not be provided with such enclosures. Note: The term “bare live parts“, as used throughout this Standard, includes film coated wire. 4.2.2 An enclosed control intended to be exposed to falling moisture orto external

45、splashing shall comply with the applicable requirements for Enclosure 3 of GSA Standard 022.2 No. 94. 4.2.3 Non-metallic enclosures shall have a minimum flammability classification of 0.6 V-2 in accordance with the vertical burning test requirements of GSA Standard 022.2 No. 0.6. 4.2.4 Thermoplastic

46、 enclosures shall meet the test requirements for mould stress relief specified in Clause 6.7. 4.2.5 Enclosures for cord connected or direct plug-in devices shall meet the impact test requirements of Clause 6.14. C22.2 No. 156-M1987 10 November 1987 Construction 4.3 Mounting Materials 4.3.1 Material

47、on which bare live parts are mounted shall be of absorption resistant insulating material meeting the test of Clause 6.13. 4.3.2 Material on which bare live parts are mounted shall have a minimum flammability classification of 0.6 V-2 in accordance with the vertical burning test requirements of CSA

48、Standard C22.2 No. 0.6. 4.4 Mounting 4.4.1 Controls for flush mounting shall be provided with means for mounting in a device box or on an outlet box cover. The mounting strap or mounting ears either shall be made of steel at least 1.0 mm thick or, if thinner or made of other material, shall be forme

49、d or reinforced so as to have equivalent mechanical strength. If steel is used, it shall be suitably treated to prevent rusting (see CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0). Note: The mounting strap or mounting ears may be provided with extension plaster ears, which may be scored so that they can be broken off if not needed. 4.4.2 Controls for flush mounting shall be designed so that metal face plates, when installed in the intended manner, shall be bonded to the outlet boxes. 4.4.3 Mounting for controls not intended for flush mounting shall be suitable for the application. 4.5 T
