33、No. 160, Voltage and polarity testers, one of a series of Standardsissued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous editionspublished in 1985 and 1983.Major changes from the previous edition include the following:a) requirements for the evaluation of prop

34、erties of polymeric materials have been updated;b) corrosion protection requirements have been added; andc) all of the reference standards have been updated.This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of theStandard.This Standard was prepared by the

35、 Subcommittee on Voltage Testers, under the jurisdiction of theTechnical Committee on Industrial Products and the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements forElectrical Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee.Interpretations: The Strategic Steering Committee on Requirem

36、ents for Electrical Safety has providedthe following direction for the interpretation of standards under its jurisdiction: “The literal text shall beused in judging compliance of products with the safety requirements of this Standard. When the literaltext cannot be applied to the product, such as fo

37、r new materials or construction, and when a relevantCSA committee interpretation has not already been published, CSA Groups procedures forinterpretation shall be followed to determine the intended safety principle.”Notes:1) Use of the singular does not exclude the plural (and vice versa) when the se

38、nse allows.2) Although the intended primary application of this Standard is stated in its Scope, it is important to note that itremains the responsibility of the users of the Standard to judge its suitability for their particular purpose.3) This Standard was developed by consensus, which is defined

39、by CSA Policy governing standardization Codeof good practice for standardization as “substantial agreement. Consensus implies much more than a simplemajority, but not necessarily unanimity”. It is consistent with this definition that a member may be included inthe Technical Committee list and yet no

45、, on electrical supply circuits and equipment atpoints where the voltage difference does not exceed 750 V.1.2This Standard does not apply to devices primarily intended to measure voltage, such as those thatemploy a meter movement.1.3This Standard does not apply to devices designed specifically for u

46、se by an electric or communicationutility in the exercise of its function as a utility.1.4In this Standard,“shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged tosatisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or thatwhich is
