May, 1983 6 CSA Standard C22.2 No. 197-M1983 Foreword The Canadian Standards Association provides certi- fication services for manufacturers who, under license from CSA, wish to use the

17、 appropriate registered CSA Marks on certain products of their manufactureto indicate conformity with CSA Standards. CSA Certification for a number of products is provided in the interest of maintaining agreed-upon standards of quality, performance, interchangeability and/or safety, as appropriate.

18、Where applicable, certification may form the basis for acceptance by inspection authorities responsible for enforcement of regulations. Where feasible, programs will be developed for additional products for which certification is desired by producers, consumers or other interests. In performing its

19、functions in accordance with its objectives, CSA does not assume or undertake to discharge any responsibility of the manufacturer or any other party. 29、n. May, 1983 C22.2 No. 197-M1983 PVC insulating Tape 7 1. Scope. This Standard applies to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulating tape for use at a maximum temperature of 60, 80, 90 or 105 C, for insulating joints and splices in wires and cables having voltage ratings up to 1000 V, in accordance with th

30、e Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. The tape is intended to be applied in layers, each layer being half-lapped, and each joint or splice insulated so as to provide an acceptable level of insulation. 2. Reference Publications 2.1 Where reference is made to CSA Standards of the Canadian Electrical Cod

31、e, Parts I and II, such reference shall be considered to refer to the latest edition and amendment thereto, unless otherwise specified. This Standard refers to the following such Standards and the year dates shown indicate the latest editions available at the time of printing: 022.1-1982, Canadian E

32、lectrical Code, Part I; 022.2 No. 0.3-1 976, Test Methods for Electrical Wires and Cables. 2.2 Where reference is made to the following Publi- cation not under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on CE Code, Part II, such reference shall be considered to refer to that edition listed

33、 below: ASTM* Standard Al 67-8 1 a, Stainless and Heat-Resisting Chromium-Nickel Steel Plate, Sheet, and Strip. *American Society for Testing and Materials. 2.3 This Standard makes frequent reference to CSA Standard 022.2 No.0.3, Test Methods for Electrical Wires and Cables, which is hereinafter ref

34、erred to as CSA Standard 022.2 No. 0.3. 3. Construction 3.1 Material 3.1.1 General. The tape consists of a PVC film (poly- vinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate) coated on one side with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The tape edges shall be straight and unbroken as determ

35、ined with normal or corrected vision without magnification. 3.1.2 PVC Film. The PVC film shall be suitably com- pounded to meetthe requirements of this Standard. The film shall be smooth and uniform. 3.1.3 Adhesive Coating. The pressure-sensitive adhesive coating shall be smooth and uniform and esse

36、n- tially free from lumps and bare spots. There shall be no adhesive transfer when the tape is unwound from the roll. 3.2 Colour. The tape may be of any colour. 3.3 Thickness 3.3.1 The average thickness of the tape (inclusive of the adhesive compound) shall be not less than 0.15 mm (see Clause 5.4).

37、 3.3.2 The tolerance for the average thickness of tape as designated by the manufacturer shall be lO%. 3.4 Width. The tolerance for the designated width of the tape shall be 1 mm. May, 1983 8 CSA Standard C22.2 No. 197-M1983 4. Marking 5. Tests 4.1 Manufacturers Marking. The inner core or core flang

38、e, if one is provided and it is an integral part of the core, of each individual roll of tape shall be marked in a legible manner to show the following: (a) An identifying name or trademark; (b) The catalogue number, if applicable; and (c) Factory identification. 4.2 Other Marking. 4.2.1 Thefollowin

39、g additional marking shall be required: (a) The thickness; (b) The temperature rating range, e.g., 0 to 105 C; (c) The type of tape, i.e., PVC or VINYL; and (d) WEATHER RESISTANT for tapes complying with the test in Clause 5.12. 4.2.2 The marking mentioned in Clause 4.2.1 shall appear in one of the

40、following locations: (a) If the tape is manufactured with a core flange, the marking may be on the flange; (b) If the tape is packaged in a container or wrapper the marking maybe provided on the exteriorsurface or in the form of a printed notice placed inside the container or wrapper; or (c) The mar

41、king may be provided on a gummed label applied to one of the sides of the roll of tape. 4.3 Height of Letters for Marking. The letters for all markings shall be not less than 1.6 mm high. 5.1 SpecImens for Testing. The test shall be con- ducted on specimens of tape having a width of 18 mm. 5.2 Speci

42、men Conditioning 5.2.1 The rolls of tape shall be at a temperature of 23 2C before any specimens are removed for test. 5.2.2 Unless otherwise specified, all test specimens shall be conditioned fora period of 1 hand testing shall be conducted at 23 2C and 50 10Io relative humidity. 5.3 Specimen Prepa

43、ration. The rolls of tape to be tested shall be placed on a freely revolving mandrel. The first three layers of the tape shall be discarded from the roll. The required length of specimen shall be removed at a rate of approximately 50 mm/s. The specimen shall be placed on a smooth clean surface, with

44、 the adhesive side up, or suspended from one end in free air for the conditioning period, unless otherwise specified. The adhesive surface shall be protected from contamination, including that produced by handling. 5.4 Thickness 5.4.1 The thickness of a single layer of the tape shall be determined b

45、y the thickness gauge specified in Clause 5.4.2, using the procedure specified in Clause 5.4.3. 5.4.2 The gauge used to measure the thickness shall be a dead weight dial micrometer as specified in Clause 4.2.1.1 of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0.3 except the anvil may vary in diameter from 6.35 to 50.8 mm

46、 and the presser foot and moving parts connected therewith shall be weighed so as to apply a total load of 170 3 g to the specimen. The gauge shall be calibrated for the actual load exerted by the presser foot. 5.4.3 The specimen of tape shall be placed on the anvil of the gauge, with the adhesive s

47、ide up, smoothly, but without tension. The presser foot shall be lowered on the tape gradually (without impact), allowing it to rest upon the tapefor2 s, and then the reading on the dial shall be observed. Three measurements shall be taken uni- formly distributed over the surface of the test specime

48、n. The average thickness of the tape shall be the average of the three measurements. May, 1983 PVC nsuiating Tape 9 5.5 Breaking Strength and Elongation 5.5.1 The breaking strength of the tape shall be at least 210 N/100 mm of width and the minimum elongation at rupture of the tape shall be at least 100%. 5.5.2 Compliance with the breaking strength and elon- gation tests in Clause 5.5.1 shall be determined with the apparatus specified in Clause 5.5.3 and using the
