11、ne 1987) 022.2 No. 34-M1987 Scope Definitions General Requirements Construction Electrode Receptacles, Fittings, and Connectors for Gas Tubes 1. Scope This Standard applies to (a) electrode receptacles and fittings for mounting gas tubes intended for indoor and outdoor applications operating at volt

12、ages of 15 000 V and less but not exceeding 7 500 V to ground for use in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part!; (b) connectors that are intended to enclose the ends of gas tube electrodes and to provide a connection to the secondary voltage supply. 2. Definitions 2.1 The f

13、ollowing definitions apply in this Standard: Bonding a low impedance path obtained by permanently joining all non-current-carrying metal parts to assure electrical continuity and have the capacity to conduct safely any current likely to be imposed on it. Bonding conductor a conductor that connects t

14、he non-current-carrying parts of electrical equipment, raceways, or enclosures to the system grounding conductor. Collar ferrule the portion of a standard housing to be used solely as a mounting means inside a sign enclosure. Pendent type receptacle a receptacle housing intended to be mounted to the

15、 end of the gas tube without any other direct support. 3. General Requirements 3.1 General requirements applicable in this Standard are given in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0. 3.2 Reference Publications 3.2.1 Where reference is made to CSA Standards of the CE Code, Parts I and II, such references shall b

16、e considered to refer to the latest edition and revision thereto. This Standard refers to the following such Standards and the year dates shown indicate the latest edition available at the time of printing: CSA Standards C22.1 -1986, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I; C22.2 No. 0-M1982, General Requi

17、rements Canadian Electrical Code, Part II; C22.2 No. 0.6-M 1982, Flammability Testing of Polymeric Materials; C22.2 No. 65-1956 (R1965); Wire Connectors. 3.2.2* Where reference is made to the following publication, such reference shall be considered to refer to that edition listed below: ASTM Standa

Construction 4.1 General Components that are covered by other CE Code, Part II Standards shall be suitable for the intended application and shall (a) be app

19、roved; or (b) comply with those requirements of the component Standard which are pertinent to the intended application when investigated as an integral part of the device. Electrode Receptacles, Fittings, and Connectors for Gas Tubes March 1991 (Replaces p. 9, June 1987) 9 Construction Marking 4.2 M

20、aterial 4.2.1 Insulating bodies of receptacles and connectors shall comply with the applicable tests specified in Clause 6. 4.2.2 All inside and outside surfaces of porcelain body receptacles shall be glazed or shall comply with the requirements of Clause 6.3. 4.2.3 All ferrous metal parts except st

21、ainless steel shall be electroplated or otherwise suitably protected to resist corrosion. 4.2.4 The thickness of the insulated wall of a receptacle shall be as specified in Table 1. 4.3 Mounting 4.3.1 Receptacles other than pendent type shall be provided with a means for secure attachment to the mou

22、nting surface. 4.3.2 A pendent type receptacle shall provide means for clamping the cable to provide strain relief that will prevent a mechanical strain on the cable from being transmitted to the terminal connections. 4.3.3 A pendent type receptacle shall be provided with a means for securely retain

23、ing the gas tube within the body of the receptacle. 4.4 Drainage 4.4.1 A receptacle intended for outdoor use shall be so designed that it will prevent the accumulation of water within the body of the receptacle which may result in the reduction of spacings between live parts and metal parts connecte

24、d to ground. 4.4.2 A pendent type receptacle shall not be provided with drain holes. 4.4.3 A receptacle intended for use with a pig-tail connection to the electrode of the gas tube shall have no drain holes in the side wall with dimensions greater than 7.9 mm. 4.4.4 A receptacle requiring particular

25、 mounting or orientation to provide proper drainage shall be so constructed that it can be rigidly mounted in that position and shall be marked in accordance with Clause 5.2. 4.4.5 A receptacle may employ a sloping interior wall in lieu of drain holes provided that the slope of the wall extends the

26、entire length and the inside diameter at the mouth is at least 6.3 mm greater than the interior diameter at the terminal end. A breathing hole shall also be provided to prevent moisture accumulation in case the mouth of the receptacle is tightly closed by a washer or gasket. 4.5 Gaskets A gasket may

27、 be used around the gas tube to prevent the ingress of foreign material. 4.6 Current-Carrying Parts 4.6.1* With the exception of bonding terminals, iron or steel, whether plain or plated, shall not be used for parts that are intended to carry a significant portion of the current. 28、mber31, 1987. 4.6.2 Brass parts that contain at least 80% copper shall be considered to be sufficiently resistant to corrosion cracking. Brass parts containing less than 80% copper shall be capable of complying with the corrosion-cracking test specified in Clause 6.4. 4.6.3 Where a coiled-spring con

29、tact is employed as a part of a receptacle, it shall be secured within the body of the receptacle. In the nondepressed position the distance between the contact and the plane of the mouth of the receptacle shall be not less than 1-1/3 times the inside diameterof the mouth (see Figure 1). 10 C22.2 No

30、. 34-M 1987 March 1991 (Replaces p. 10, June 1987) Construction Marking 4.6.4 A pendent type receptacle shall be so constructed that there will be no live parts exposed to accidental contact when installed as intended. 4.7 Terminals 4.7.1 Terminal screws for connection to the high voltage cable shal

31、l be not smaller than a No. 8 machine screw. 4.7.2 Terminal plates through which binding head or machine screws are threaded shall have a thickness of not less than 0.76 mm and shall have at least two complete clean-cut fullthreads. In order to obtain two complete threads, the metal of the terminal

32、plate at the tapped hole may be extruded. 4.7.3 Means shall be provided to prevent the terminal from rotating or terminal screw from loosening. 4.7.4 Means such as upturned lugs or cup-shaped washers shall be provided for retaining conductors under the heads of the screws or nuts. 4.7.5 Crimp type t

33、erminals shall comply with the requirements of OSA Standard C22.2 No. 65. 4.8 Bonding All exposed, conductive, non-current-carrying parts of receptacles (except for collar ferrules) and fittings shall be provided with a means to terminate an external bonding conductor. 4.9 Spacings 4.9.1 Spacings th

34、rough air and over the surface between uninsulated live parts and non-current-carrying metal parts shall be not less than the values specified in Table 2. 4.9.2 In the case of a receptacle having a spring type contact, the measurement shall be made with the spring depressed to within 3.2 mm of its f

35、ully depressed position. 4.9.3 The spacings specified in Table 2 shall be maintained under all positions of adjustable type receptacles. 4.10 Ratings The voltage rating to ground of an electrode receptacle shall be 2500 V, 5000 V, 6000 V, or 7500 V. 5. Marking 5.1 Receptacles 5.1.1 Each receptacle s

36、hall be plainly marked in a permanent manner in a place where the details will be readily visible with the following: (a) the manufacturers name, tradename, or other recognized symbol of identification; (b) the catalogue, part number, or model number; and (c) the rated voltage to ground. 5.1.2 Recep

37、tacles intended for indoor use only shall bear the following marking: FOR INDOOR USE ONLY and POUR EMPLOI LINTERIEUR, or equivalent wording 5.1.3* A date code, date, serial number, or the equivalent, shall be marked on each receptacle. The maximum marked interval shall be 1 month. * Effective Date D

38、ecember31, 1987. 5.2 Special Mounting and Orientation A receptacle requiring special mounting or orientation instruction to comply with Clause 4.4:4 shall be permanently marked in a place that will be readily visible after installation to indicate TOP, or other acceptable position. 5.3 Special Tooli

39、ng Any special tooling instructions required for field installations shall appear on or in the smallest unit package. Electrode Receptacles, Fittings, and Connectors for Gas Tubes March 1991 (Replaces p. 11, June 1987) 11 Tests 6. Tests 6.1 Dielectric Strength 6.1.1 The receptacle shall be capable o

40、f withstanding without breakdown, for a period of 1 mm, the application of a 60 Hz voltage as shown in Table 3. The voltage shall be applied gradually starting at zero between live parts and all non-current-carrying metal parts including the metal mounting surface to which the receptacle is installe

41、d as in actual service and with a length of gas tube installed. 6.1.2 To perform the test outlined in Clause 6.1.1, two receptacles shall be mounted as intended in a sheet metal panel with a distance of 305 mm between their centres. The mounting openings in the panel shall be not more than 1.6 mm la

42、rger than the diameter of the receptacle at the point of mounting. A short length of gas tube having electrodes spaced 305 mm apart, centre to centre, shall be installed into the receptacles as far as possible and so located that they touch the walls of the receptacle. For this test the gas tube may

43、 be secured in place by one or two loops of cotton cord only. If adjustable features are provided, the receptacles shall be adjusted to the worst condition that may result in arc-over or breakdown. 6.1.3 There shall be no arcing or sparking over the surface or through the material of the receptacles

44、 between live terminal parts orconnections and the sheet metal surface on which the receptacles are mounted. Sparking between the gas tube near the mouth of the receptacle and the panel is permitted. 6.2 Thermal Shock 6.2.1 Insulating tubings of electrode receptacles shall be immersed three times, a

45、lternately, in 82 1C water and 2 1C water. The duration in each medium shall be 5 mm, and the transfertime shall not exceed 5 s. Each specimen shall be tested separately and transferred by use of tongs. 6.2.2 The insulating tubing shall show no signs of cracking when examined with normal or correcte

46、d-to-normal vision without magnification. 6.3 Moisture Absorption 6.3.1 Samples of porcelain or other porous insulating materials shall be weighed before and after immersion in water for 100 h at approximately 21C. Prior to the initial weighing, the samples shall be dry. Before weighing after immers

47、ion, all excessive moisture shall be wiped off with a clean cloth. 6.3.2 The moisture absorption of the insulator shall not exceed 0.5% of its mass prior to immersion. 6.4 Corrosion Cracking Brass parts containing less than 80% copper shall be capable of withstanding, without cracking, an immersion

48、for 30 mm in an aqueous solution of 10 g of mercuous nitrate and 10 mL of nitric acid (specific gravity 1.42) per litre of solution. 6.5 Flame Test The actual enclosure or plaque of polymeric material shall be tested in accordance with Test A-i 27 mm flame test of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0.6. The mat

49、erial shall not support combustion for more than 60 s after the fifth application of the test flame, and there shall be no dripping of flaming particles that can ignite the surgical cotton. 6.6 Accelerated Aging 6.6.1 Thermoplastic insulating material shall show no evidence of blistering, cracking, softening, distortion, or melting as a result of exposure for 7 days in an air-circulating oven at a temperature of 105 1C. 6.6.2 Thermoset insulating material shall show no evidence of blistering, cracking, softening, distortion, deterioration, or melting as a
