C22.2 No. 83-M1985 6 August, 1985 Foreword Foreword Canadian Standards Association provides certification services for manufacturers who, under license from CSA, wish to use

17、 the appropriate registered CSA Marks on certain products of their manufacture to indicate conformity with CSA Standards. CSA Certification for a number of products is provided in the interest of maintaining agreed-upon standards of quality, performance, interchangeability and/or safety, as appropri

18、ate. Where applicable, certification may form the basis for acceptance by inspection authorities responsible for enforcement of regulations. Where feasible, programs will be developed for additional products for which certification is desired by producers, consumers or other interests. In performing

28、nts C22.2 No. 83-M1985 Electrical Metallic Tubing 1. Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to electrical metallic tubing fabricated from mild steel, aluminum alloy, or copper alloy intended for use as a metal raceway for the installation of wires and cables in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Ele

29、ctrical Code, Part I. 2. Definition 2.1 The following definition applies in this Standard: Electrical metallic tubing means a raceway of metal having a circular cross section into which it is intended that conductors be drawn, and which has a wall thinner than that of rigid metal conduit and an outs

30、ide diameter sufficiently different from that of rigid metal conduit to render it impracticable for anyone to thread it with standard pipe thread. 3. General Requirements 3.1 General General requirements applicable to this Standard are given in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, General RequirementsCanadian

31、Electrical Code, Part II. 3.2 Reference Publications 3.2.1 Where reference is made to CSA Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Parts I and II, such reference shall be considered to refer to the latest edition and revision thereto, unless otherwise specified. This Standard refers to the followi

33、al Metallic Tubing August, 1985 General RequirementsConstruction 3.22 Where reference is made to the following Publication, such reference shall be considered to refer to that edition listed below: ASTM* Standard A239-73(1 983), Standard Test Method for Locating the Thinnest Spot in a Zinc (Galvaniz

34、ed) Coating on Iron or Steel Articles by the Preece Test (Copper Sulfate Dip). *American Society for Testing and Materials. 4. Construction 4.1 Tube 4.1.1 Each tube used in the manufacture of electrical metallic tubing shall be of mild steel, aluminum alloy, or copper alloy. 4.1.2 Each tube shall be

35、 straight and shall have a circular cross section. The wall thickness and the internal diameter shall be uniform throughout the length of the tube. 4.1.3 Tubing of aluminum alloy or copper alloy shall be of the seamless type. Tubing of steel may be of the seamed, welded, or seamless type. All seams

36、of seamed or welded steel tubes shall be thoroughly welded (see Clause 6.1.1). 4.1.4 Both the inside and outside surfaces of each tube shall be clean and smooth, and free of any irregularities or matter that would obstruct or interfere with the drawing-in or withdrawing of insulated wires and cables

37、. The cleaning process of the steel tube shall leave the surface in such a condition that the required protective coating will have a smooth finish (see Clause 4.1.5). 4.1.5 After cleaning and before the inner protective coating is applied, the interior surface of each steel tube shall be examined t

38、o determine the absence or presence of scale. If scale, as defined in the following note, is present, the tube shall be returned for further cleaning. Note: For the purposes of Clause 4.1.5, scale is a sharply defined edge or a rough surface extending for some distance along the tube, causing a slig

39、ht but appreciable decrease in the internal diameter. Scale is readily identified at the ends of the tube by scraping the surface, in which case, if any is present, it will come off in the form of a hard brittle film or flakes. 4.1.6 The tube shall not be threaded. Each end of the tube shall be cut

40、off squarely and shall then be reamed to remove any burrs and sharp edges formed by the cutting-off tool. 4.2 Protective CoatingsSteel Electrical Metallic Tubing 4.2.1 General 4.2.1.1 Both the inside and outside surfaces of steel electrical metallic tubing shall be protected against corrosion. The p

41、rotective coating on both the interior and exterior surfaces shall C22.2 No. 83-M1985 10 August, 1985 Construction cover evenly the surfaces to which it is applied, shall be of uniform quality throughout, and shall have a smooth and even appearance. Any coating other than zinc on the outside surface

42、 and zinc or enamel on the inside surface, as described herein, shall be subject to investigation. Note: Aluminum alloy and copper alloy electrical metallic tubing are not required to have a protective coating. 4.2.1.2 The protective coating used on the inside and outside surfaces of steel electrica

43、l metallic tubing shall be sufficiently elastic to conform to the requirements of Clause 6.2.1. 4.2.2 Enamel Coatings Enamel coatings shah conform to the requirements of Clause 6.2.2. 4.2.3 Zinc Coatings A protective coating of zinc shall conform to the requirements of Clause 6.2.3. 4.3 Straight Tub

44、ing 4.3.1 Length The standard length of finished tubing shall be 3.05 m 6 mm. 4.3.2 External Diameters and Weights of Finished Tubing 4.3.2.1 The external diameters and weights of standard lengths of finished tubing shall be as indicated in Table 1. 4.3.2.2 Electrical metallic tubing complying with

45、the requirements of this Standard will normally be found to have dimensions in accordance with Table 2. 4.4 Elbows and Bends 4.4.1 Elbows and bends shall be made from the same grade of tube as that used for the straight lengths of tubing, and shall be finished in every way according to the requireme

46、nts for straight tubing insofar as they apply. 4.4.2 The radius (R) of an elbow or bend and the straight length (La) at each end shall be as indicated in Table 3 and Figure 1. The arc subtended by the curve shall be not more than 90 nor less than 15, except that the end curve of a gooseneck may be 1

47、35 in conjunction with a reverse bend of 45. 4.5 Expanded-End Integral Couplings 4.5.1 Straight lengths of 2, 2-1/2, 3, 3-1/2, and 4 trade size steel electrical metallic tubing may be supplied with an expanded-end integral coupling on one end. Elbows and bends in the same size range of steel electri

48、cal metallic tubing may be supplied with an expanded-end integral coupling on one or both ends. Electrical Metallic Tubing August, 1985 11 ConstructionMarkingTests 4.5.2 The expanded-end integral couplings referred to in Clause 4.5.1 shall comply with the requirements for couplings for electrical me

49、tallic tubing specified in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 18. 4.6 Finished Product 4.6.1 The inside and outside surfaces of finished tubing, elbows, and bends shall be free from burrs, blisters, fins (seams, flashes), scale, rust, or other defects. Notes: (1) Light stains and light surface scratches are not considered objectionable. (2) The interior of the product is to present a smooth surface throughout the
