33、id unplasticized poly (vinyl chloride)* boxes and fittings of the following types that are intended to be installed and used with rigid PVC conduit at a maximum working temperature of 75 C in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I:a) junction boxes with an interior volume
34、of 1640 mL or less that are intended to provide access to wiring and to enclose splices and taps but not to support wiring devices;b) conduit boxes with an interior volume of 1640 mL or less that are intended to be used as pull boxes but not to enclose splices and taps or support wiring devices;c) s
35、urface mounted device boxes with an interior volume of 1640 mL or less that are intended primarily to support wiring devices but may also be used as a pull box or to enclose wiring joints;d) box covers of the blank and device types;e) expansion joints that are intended to compensate for the linear e
36、xpansion of a span of rigid PVC conduit;f) junction box terminal adapters that are intended to connect a length of PVC conduit by an elbow or other bend to a box;g) female adapters that are intended to connect a length of PVC conduit to a length of rigid metal conduit;h) reducers that are intended t
37、o connect lengths of two different sizes of rigid PVC conduit;i) caps that are intended to close the ends of unused lengths of rigid PVC conduit; andj) bell ends that are intended to provide a bushed opening at the open end of a length of rigid PVC conduit.* For convenience, the shorter term PVC is

44、r a component of a floor box assembly intended to complete the enclosure.Raised-floor box a floor box intended for use in a raised floor, such as in an electronic computer/data processing equipment room.Recessed access floor box a floor box with provisions for mounting wiring devices below the floor
45、 surface.3 Construction3.1 General3.1.1 The material used to manufacture the boxes and fittings shall be unplasticized PVC.C22.2 No. 85-14Rigid PVC boxes and fittingsJanuary 2014 2014 CSA Group103.1.2 The inner and outer surfaces of boxes and fittings shall be smooth and free from blisters, cracks,
46、and other defects that would obstruct or interfere with their assembly or with the installation of wires and cables. Excess flashings shall be removed from moulded devices.3.1.3 A solvent cement that is suitable for poly(vinyl chloride) shall be available for joining the boxes and fittings to rigid
47、PVC conduit from commercial sources carrying the PVC conduit, boxes, and fittings.3.2 Boxes3.2.1 Provision for mountingAny mounting means that is provided as an integral part of a box shall be such that all metal parts, including the heads of screws or rivets, will be protected from accidental conta
48、ct with any bare live parts within the box. Provision for mounting wiring devices such as switches and receptacles shall be provided in device boxes only.3.2.2 Attachment of covers and devicesThe means of securing a cover to a box shall be separate from that provided for a wiring device. Where screw
49、 mountings are required to attach covers and devices, they shall be tested for the insertion and removal of screws in accordance with Clause 5.14. The location of screws or other metal cover-holding devices shall be such that, if they are accessible outside a covered box, they cannot contact uninsulated live parts or insulated conductors inside the box.3.2.3 Wall thicknessThe thickness of a side, end, or bottom of a box shall comply with Table 1, except that for wall sections that are reinforced, for example with ribs, the thickness may be less t
