21、(FIRST EDITION) SCOPE Scope 1. This Specification is intended to apply to power-operated radio transmitting equipment* de- signed to be used on standard supply circuits in accordance with the rules of Part I of this Code. This will include all types of radio transmitting equipment irrespective of th

22、e type of modulation employed. USE Use 2. For general non-commercial and commercial purposes, including installations under the jurisdiction of skilled operators. DEFT NITIONS Definitions 3. The following definitions apply to this Speci- fication: chassis assembly means a structural member with comp

23、onent parts and associated wiring mounted thereon. transmitter cabinet means a metal container used to accommodate or cover transmitter chassis assem- blies or components, or both. transmitter enclosure means any totally enclosed space excluding ceilings or equivalent other than a transmitter cabine

24、t used to enclose transmitter chassis assemblies, transmitter cabinets, and components. SPECIFICATION DETAILS GENERAL REQUIREMENTS General 4. See the latest issue of CSA Specification Requirements C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements, applicable to all Specifications of Part II of this

25、Code. Other references herein to that Specification are abbreviated to “Specification C22.2 No. 0“. NoTE: Throughout this Speciflcaion reference -is made to certain other Specifications which should be consulted. A list of these Specifications appears on page 5. 8 CSA SPECIFICATION C22.2 No. 98 CONS

26、TRUCTION General 5. Component parts of a device such as flexible cords, attachment plugs, fuses, switches, lampholders, etc., shall be either of types specifically approved for the use intended, or shall be investigated as an in- tegral part of, and with, the device. Enclosures 6. All live or curren

27、t-carrying parts (e.g., bare and insulated terminals, conductors, windings, etc.), except the supply lines, control cables and antenna terminals or leads, shall be enclosed in the transmitter cabinet or a transmitter enclosure and shall be inaccessible to unauthorized persons. 7. The transmitter cab

28、inets and transmitter en- closures shall be substantially constructed of material suitable for their particular application (preferably metal), and shall be constructed so that they will afford protection to the various parts of the device against mechanical injury to which they are likely to be exp

29、osed in normal usage. 8. The transmitter cabinet shall be constructed of metal having mechanical strength and rigidity equivalent to No. 22 U.S. sheet-metal gauge steel, if not reinforced and, in any case, not less than No. 26 U.S. sheet-metal gauge steel. The point of entry for conduit connection s

30、hall be of metal equivalent to No. 16 U.S. sheet-metal gauge steel, or shall be suitably reinforced to have equiv- alent mechanical strength. Where dissimilar metals are connected together and the potential exceeds 1 volt, the construction shall be the subject of special investigation with regard to

31、 effects of corrosion. NOTE: Covers or enclosures of metal, or insulating material for sinai! openings or components need not meet the above requirements where adequate strength, consistent with the design, is maintained. 9. The transmitter enclosure shall be constructed of fire-proof material havin

32、g strength and stiffness such that a force of 200 pounds at any point will not reduce the spacings between the enclosure and any live part to less than twice the spacings required in Clause 42 and in no case less than 3 inches. Glass, masonry, or materials other than metal may be used, subject to sp

33、ecial investigation to determine their acceptability. 10. Openings in the transmitter cabinets and trans- mitter enclosures shall be designed, located or pro- tected so that live parts cannot be touched when a straight circular rod, 3 inch in diameter and 12 inches long is inserted. Ventilating open

34、ings in POWER-OPERATED RADiO TRANSM1-uu 9 transmitter cabinets shall be covered with a fine mesh screen, or suitably baffled to prevent the emission of flame or molten metal, if the design is such that emission can occur. Accessibility 11. Transmitter cabinets shall be constructed so of Live that: (

35、a) no bare parts operating at potentials in excess of 30 volts shall be directly accessible; (b) bare parts operating at 31 to 750 volts shall not be accessible through doors, lids, covers, etc., unless: (i) a key or tool is required to open such doors and a caution notice which reads “Caution: Disc

36、onnect supply before open- ing“ is securely fastened to such doors; and (ii) shields or barriers are provided, so that all operating adjustments* and controls may be accomplished without access to live parts; and (iii) suitable warnings shall be provided where remote control voltages exceeding 30 vo

37、lts exist after the supply circuit has been disconnected. * Certain adjustments used in the setting up of the transmitter tnay be accessible when under the jurisdiction of authorized persons. (c) All doors, lids, covers, etc., giving access to circuits having potentials greater than 750 volts, shall

38、 be provided with interlocks which will remove all secondary potentials in excess of 30 volts (which do not comply with para- graph (b) above) when the doors, lids, covers, etc., are open. Interlocks may be of a type which may be by-passed for the purpose of testing the equipment with the power on,

39、provided that they are arranged so that the by-pass is automatically removed when the doors, etc., are closed. 12. Provision shall be made, either by means of bleeder resistor or automatic short-circuiting devices, to discharge all filter capacitors to less than 30 volts within 5 seconds after an in

40、terlocked door is opened or the primary power removed. Where this is not feasible, suitable warning signs shall be provided which will be the subject of special investigation. Water 13. Except for insulating sections, the coolant shall Cooling be conducted to and from water-cooled components by mean

41、s of substantial piping constructed of copper, or equivalent material arranged so that accidental leaks will not jeopardize any of the other components. The piping shall be adequately supported. 10 CSA SPECIFICATION c22.2 No. 98 Insulating sections and joints shall be made of such materials that lea

42、ks will not develop due to temperature changes, and the joints shall be made in such a manner that they will be mechanically strong. The entire insulating section shall be con- sidered a live part and shall be installed and treated as such. The metallic piping immediately adjacent to the insulating

43、section shall be solidly and effectively grounded in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Air Cooling 14. Fans and their associated driving mechanisms used in connection with air cooling systems shall be protected by wire screens or other means to prevent accidental contact where su

44、ch contact would result in injury. Moving Parts 15. Moving parts of rotating machinery shall be protected from accidental contact. Meters 16. Meter zero-adjusting screws shall be suitably insulated (by the construction of the meter or other- wise) for the potential involved, or shall be rendered ina

45、ccessible while the circuit is alive. Supply 17. Portable devices shall be provided with a Connections: suitable length of approved flexible cord and an General attachment-plug cap for connection to the supply circuit. 18. Flexible cords shall have current-carrying capacities at least equal to the m

46、aximum input in amperes, and the type shall depend on the nature of the device. The type of cord supplied shall be of at least the serviceability specified in Specification C22.2 No. 0, Appendix C, Table V. Supply 19. Transmitters having an output rating greater Connections: than 100 watts shall hav

47、e grounding provision either unclm in the form of a three-conductor cord or by means of conduit connection. Exposed non-current-carrying metal parts which are not electrically connected shall be separately grounded (where grounding is required). Supply 20. Strain relief shall be provided so that mec

48、han- Connections: ical strain on flexible cords will not be transmitted to Strain Relief . . . . . . terminals, splices, or interior wiring. The strain relief shall be capable of withstanding a direct pull of 35 pounds for not less than 15 seconds. 21. If a knot in a flexible cord serves as a strain

49、 relief, the surface against which the knot may bear or with which it may come in contact, shall be free from projections, sharp edges, etc. 22. The cord shall be prevented from being pushed inside the chassis assembly or transmitter cabinet in which it terminates, if there is likelihood of damage to interior wiring from such action. At each point where a supply cord or primary connection passes through an opening in a wall, barrier or enclosing case, there shall be a suitable bushing or some equivalent which shall be substantial
