This standard has been prepared by Working Group NA 055-02-01 AA Abzge und Laborlufttechnik of the Normenausschuss Laborgerte und Laboreinrichtungen (FNLa) (Laboratory Devices and Installations Standards Committee). DIN 12924 “Laboratory furniture Fume cupboards” consists

Previous editions DIN 12924-4: 1994-01 DIN 12924-4:2012-02 4 1 Scope This standard specifies requirements and tests for fume cupboards that are used in pharmacy laboratories according to the Apothekenbetriebsordnung (Ordinance on the operation of pharmac
11、ies) (hereinafter called fume cupboards for pharmacies). This standard applies in conjunction with the series of DIN EN 14175 standards (all parts), and specifies the provisions that deviate from the DIN EN 14175 series. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for

16、s In accordance with DIN EN 14175-2. DIN 12924-4:2012-02 5 5 Dimensions Fume cupboards for pharmacies should comply with the dimensions given in Table 1. Further dimensions should comply with DIN EN 14175-2:2003-08, Clause 4, except the work surface height. The work surface height is not normatively

18、ed safety glass in accordance with DIN EN ISO 12543-1 or suitable plastic materials shall be used for the sash between the user and the fume cupboard workspace. 7 Design 7.1 Requirements 7.1.1 The requirements in accordance with DIN EN 14175-2 apply and, if need be, DIN EN 14175-6 in the case of fum
19、e cupboards for pharmacies with variable air volume, with the following alterations and additions. 7.1.2 The underbench unit functioning as the supporting construction of the fume cupboard shall allow a load of at least 1 000 N/m2. 7.1.3 The work surface shall be able to withstand a load of at least
20、 200 N over an area of 120 mm 120 mm without any damage or lasting deformation occurring. 7.1.4 The work surface shall have a raised edge with a height of at least 5 mm on all sides and shall also be impermeable. Bench coverings without joints, e.g. in accordance with DIN 12916, shall be used. The w
21、ork surface shall be easy to clean and, if need be, to disinfect. 7.1.5 Drainage components (e.g. drain funnel, basin or drainage channel) shall be installed so as to be impermeable to liquids. Drip cups shall be equipped with waste water protection. This is preferably provided by a raised edge of a
22、t least 5 mm in the worktop. 7.1.6 The top panel shall be able to carry the lighting unit and, if need be, the ventilation device, e.g. the fan. It shall be designed in such a way that as much as possible of the remaining area consists of loosely inserted boards of light weight that are secured agai
23、nst falling down. NOTE This requirement is for pressure relief in the event of a deflagration in the fume cupboard workspace. DIN 12924-4:2012-02 6 7.1.7 The front panel of the fume cupboard shall consist of the upper (usually firmly fixed) section and the sash. The upper section above the sash shou
24、ld be transparent. 7.1.8 The sash shall comply with DIN EN 14175-2:2003-08, 7.3. A sash stop and a respective alarm may be dispensed with, provided the sash opening height does not exceed 600 mm (see Table 1). 7.2 Testing The type test of the design and material requirements shall be executed accord
25、ing to DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, Clauses 6 and 8. 8 Airflow 8.1 Requirements When testing the containment in the outer measurement plane in accordance with DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, 5.3 the determined tracer gas concentration (SF6) may be 0,65 106at most. When testing the containment robustness in accor
26、dance with DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, 5.4 the determined tracer gas concentration (SF6) may be 0,65 106at most. See also Bibliography 1. 8.2 Testing The following tests shall be executed for the air flow type test: a) face velocity in accordance with DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, 5.2; b) containment in the o
27、uter measurement plane in accordance with DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, 5.3; c) robustness of containment in accordance with DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, 5.4; d) pressure drop in accordance with DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, 5.6. The number of test gas injectors shall be reduced from nine to six for fume cupboards w
28、ith widths 1 000 mm (compare Table 1) so that this results in a test gas flow rate of 3 l/min. The central vertical row of test gas injectors shall be omitted. If the sash opening height is more than 500 mm, the air flow tests shall be executed at the opening height given by the manufacturer; this o
29、pening height shall be recorded in the test report. 9 Fume cupboard air flow indicator 9.1 Requirements Fume cupboards for pharmacies shall have a fume cupboard air flow indicator with acoustic and visual alarm in accordance with DIN EN 14175-2:2003-08, 8.2. The visual alarm may be, for instance, a
30、red blinking light in the visual field of the fume cupboard operator. The acoustic alarm may be deactivatable after triggering. NOTE General requirements for visual danger signals are specified in DIN EN 842. See Bibliography 2. The fume cupboard air flow indicator need not be in operation if the fu
31、me cupboard is switched off. A secure operating mode of the fume cupboard shall be visible immediately after being switched on, e.g. by linking with the fume cupboard lighting. DIN 12924-4:2012-02 7 Special attention is to be paid to the corrosion resistance of sensors and, if need be, actuators wit
32、hin the extract air system. 9.2 Testing Testing of the fume cupboard air flow indicator shall be executed in accordance with DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, Clause 7, and by a visual test of the additional requirements specified in 9.1. 10 Services 10.1 General Design shall be in accordance with DIN EN 1417
33、5-2:2003-08, Clause 9, with the following additions. 10.2 Outlets Prefabricated gas installations for fuel gases shall comply with DVGW G 600. Prefabricated drinking water installations shall comply with DIN 1988-2. Valves for fuel gases shall comply with DIN 12918-2. All outlets shall be equipped w
34、ith hose nozzles according to DIN 12898. 10.3 Lighting In the type test according to DIN EN 14175-3:2004-03, Clause 9, illumination on the work surface shall be at least 500 lx. 11 User manual Requirements on the user manual in accordance with DIN EN 14175-2:2003-08, Clause 10, apply with the follow
35、ing additions: recommendations for maintenance and maintenance intervals; recommendations on testing the fume cupboard air flow indicator. NOTE TRGS 526 (see Bibliography 4) requires annual routine testing of fume cupboards in which hazardous substances are handled if they do not have a self-monitor
36、ing air flow indicator. In the user manual, it shall be stated that the extract air system needs to be leak-tight as there might be excess pressure in the extract air pipes. 12 Marking and labelling The marking and labelling of fume cupboards for pharmacies shall be in accordance with DIN EN 14175-2
37、 with the following alteration: Labelling “Fume cupboard for pharmacies DIN 12924-4” instead of “EN 14175-2”.
