Figure 1: Point of drill diameter measurement 3.1.1 Back taper The back taper shall be

13、measured from the outer corners towards the shank of the drill using a micrometer or an indicator. 3.2 Radial runout The radial runout shall be measured across the lands at the outer corners of the drill using a suitable vee block with stop and dial gauge, as shown in figures 2 and 3, suitable for b

18、e lip height The relative lip height shall be measured close to the centre of the major cutting edge, excluding the area of web thinning, using a vee block with stop, and a dial gauge located vertically to the datum plane. Figure 7: Vee block for measuring relative lip height Place the drill in the

19、vee block so that it is in contact with the stop and with one major cutting edge touching the gauging pin (see figure 8, position 1). Set the gauge to zero, rotate the drill through 180“ and take the reading at the other cutting edge (see figure 8, position 2). The value indicated shall be taken as

Set the gauge to zero and rotate the drill through 180“ so that the other cutting edge is in contact with the stop, and take the reading, which is to be taken as the flute spacing. 22、 yf (see figure 12), shall be measured at both minor cutting edges using a toolmakers micro- scope, whose reticle is to be aligned with the minor cutting edge, as shown in figure 1 O, and the reading of the angle taken. Turn the drill until the major cutting edge is facing up, towards the microscope, and then fix the drill

24、in this position. When viewed through the microscope, the cutting edge will appear as a straight line parallel to the datum plane. Read off the point angle, as shown in figure 11. NOTE: Since the major cutting edges do not in fact lie in the datum plane, the correct position of the drill can only be

Figure 11: Measurement of point angle 3.9 Side clearance The side clearance shall be measured at the edge of one of the lands using a vee block with stop and a toolmakers microscope. Place the drill in the vee block so that it is in contact with the stop. Rotate the
