、989. 1 Field of application This standard applies to forged hooks for use on lifting appli- ances. Such hooks include point hooks, ramshorn hooks, claws, shackles for laminated hooks, etc. It is recommended that laminated hooks of at least 20t capacity be used where service temperatures are very hig
、h (e.g. for carrying molten materials). 2 Scope This standard specifies safety requirements intended to improve the reliability of forged hooks (hooks, for short) and describes the methods of test. 3 Requirements 3.1 Material Hook material shall comply with the specifications given in DIN 15400. Str
、ength class M or P hooks (ci. DIN 15400) shall be made from fine grain steel complying with the basic series in DIN 17103 (cf. Amendments). The steels listed in DIN 17103 are insusceptible to ageing. Should service temperatures for hooks not conform to the range of temperatures given in DIN 17103, i
、t may be agreed that, for temperatures over 25OoC, steels belonging to the high temperature series or, for temperatures below -2OoC, steels belonging to the low temperature series be used (also specified in DIN 17103). 3.2 Forging Hooks in the unmachined condition shall be produced to the dimensions
、 specified in the relevant dimensional standards and comply with the technical delivery conditions given in DIN 7521. Where any production-related tolerances are not specified in the relevant standards, the dimensions of hook zones subject to wear shall meet or exceed the requirements regarding acce
、ptable wear as described in subclause 5.3 of the March 1979 edition of DIN 15405 Part 1. Unmachined hook components shall be worked hot, such that the deformation ratio in the zone of largest cross section is equal to at least 3 : 1. 3.3 Heat treatment Afier being forged, hooks shall be heat treated
、 in such a way that the required notched bar impact energy is attained. The heat treatment method used shall be stated on the inspection certificate (cf. clause 5). 3.4 Surface condition After heat treatment, hooks shall be descaled and shall not exhibit surface defects likely to affect safe usage.
、3.5 Internal defects Hooks shall be free of internal defects likely to affect safe usage. 3.6 Additional requirements Welding shall not be carried out on any part of the hook. Excepted from this requirement are drop forged hooks for mass-produced lifting appliances, where the following shall be perm
、itted: a) a welded joint between hookshankand lifting eye on No. 5 hooks or lower, belonging to groups 1 A, and 1 B, as in DIN 15400; b) a tackweld between shankend and nut to prevent twisting on No. 1 hooks, provided the load is accommodated by the thread and not by the weld. 3.7 Marking For the pu
、rposes of demonstrating compliance with the specifications of this standard, that part of the hook indicated in DIN 15401 Part 1 or 2 or in DIN 15402 Part 1 or 2 shall be clearly and permanently marked with the following informa- tion: line 1 : the manufacturers mark; line 2: the symbol denoting str
、ength class, followed by the lifting hook number, as outlined in DIN 15400; line 3: any marking required by the purchaser, with the item number attached if hooks are supplied as part of a batch, e.g. 367.1 (required only on hand forged hooks); line 4: the DIN symbol. The information for lines 1.2, a

、cs in clause 3 shall be tested in accordance with subclauses 4.1 to 4.5, and a certificate issued, using the specimen form on page 4 as a basis. 4.1 Chemical composition The chemical composition shall be established as specified in DIN 17103. The values of the actual chemical composition may be base
、d on the cast analysis and be obtained from inspection certi- ficate B (defined in DIN 50049). submitted by the steel manu- facturer, provided the forging works confirms the correctness of the certificate. 4.2 Mechanical properties The mechanical properties shall be tested as described in DIN 17 103
、, in conjunction with DIN 50 145 (tensile test) and DIN 50 115 (notched bar impact test). After the final heat treatment, the required number of speci- mens shall be taken from the heat treatment batch, in the lon- gitudinal direction, preferably from the outer third of the shank cross section. The
、size of a batch of hooks up to No. 40 is that number of hooks which is made from the same raw material (cast, billet or cog) and which undergoes the same heat treatment, the maximum mass of a heat treatment batch being 3 t. For No. 50 hooks or higher, the set of specimens shall be taken from one hoo
、k only. 4.3 Dimensional accuracy Acheck shall be made to establish that the actual dimensions of unmachined components and finished hooks lie within the limits of size specified, or that they comply with the require- ments given in subclause 3.2. Finished hooks which incorporate a nut shall be check
、ed for: a) axial play in the thread; b) percentage contact area of the thread flank; c) surface quality (notch-free transition), especially that of the shank and thread; d) distance between the bearing face of the nut and the shoulder. 4.4 Surface finish A visual examination shall be made to check w
、hether the hook is free of scale. All hooks shall be checked for surface defects, likely to affect safe usage, using a method that permits reliable detection of such. 4.5 Internal defects All hooks shall be checked for internal defects using a non- destructive method that permits reliable detection.
、 If the ultrasonic method is used, the raw material shall be free of in- ternal defects before forging, which is to be checked and certified either by the steel manufacturer or at the forging works. 5 Certificates The purchaser of No. 20 hooks or higher (see DIN 15400for hook numbers) shall be suppl
、ied with an inspection certi- ficate whose contents are in compliance with the specimen form on page 4.?) If agreed at the time of ordering, the pur- chaser of No. 16 hooks shall be supplied with such a certi- ficate. In either case, the manufacturer shall keep a copy of the certificate. The certifi
、cates shall be filed by the user of the lifting appli- ance as part of the inspection log, if keeping such is request- ed by the responsible employers? liability insurance asso- ciation. The inspection certificate shall summarize all relevant data from the manufacturer of the raw material, from the
、manu- facturer of forgings, and from the hook manufacturer. The individual certificates shall be filed with the issuing body. I) If a certificate of compliance with EC Commission Direc- tive No. 76/434 dated 13 April 1976 is required, the follow- ing information shall also be provided: a) a drawing
、of the hook showing its principal dimensions: b) the maximum proof load to which the hook can be sub- jected without displaying a significant permanent set after unloading, which shall, in no case, result in an increase in the seat diameter of more than 0,250/0; c) the force at which the hook distor
、ts so as to be inca- pable of retaining the load; d) the minimum breaking force, if the hook is designed so that it fractures or would fracture instead of distorting; e) the status of the signatory for the manufacturer or his duly appointed representative.
