、s to lists of spare parts of technical objects and equipment ready for use. Lists of spare parts according to this Standard are intended for capital goods and for consumer durables which merit overhaul and repair, in so far as they are provided for application by maintenance firms and their supplier

、s. 2 Purpose This Standard is designed to provide directions for the identification of spare parts on the basis of lists of spare parts, and thereby to facilitate the drawing up of lists of spare parts on a uniform basis. o 3 Application of the lists of spare parts Lists of spare parts are intended

、to facilitate mutual Understanding between user and manufacturer or supplier when there is a requirement for spare parts. They represent an aid when carrying out overhauls and repairs. In addition, lists of spare parts are organizational instru- ments in respect of the spare parts system established

、 by the manufacturer or supplier and by the user. Lists of spare parts are supplied on the basis of an agree- ment between manufacturer or supplier and user. Form and setup of the text portion should as far as possible conform to DIN 24420 Part 2. 4 Terms 4.1 Sparepart Components (e.g. also designat

One of the

、 two portions may be omitted, if it is not essential to the understanding of the other portion, and on condition that the remaining portion contains the minimum data required. o 6 Extent The extent of the list of spare parts will depend on the intended purpose in each particular case. It will if nec

、 of spare parts The list of spare parts shall be marked by the manufac- turer or supplier by means of a number, which will enable it to be distinguished from any other list of spare parts published by the manufacturer or supplier. This number may be the same as the identification number 1) of the re

、ference object (see Section 7.2.2). In the case of manufacture of a single object, the manufacturers or suppliers order number can be used if desired as the number of the list of spare parts. If necessary, the text portion and illustration portion of a list of spare parts may bear different numbers.

、 In this case, the number of the text portion shall be regarded as the number of the list of spare parts. Reference shall be made in the text portion to the number of the illustration portion of the list of spare parts. In cases where group spare parts lists form part of a product spare parts list,

、the numbers of the former shall be mentioned in the product spare parts list. 7.1.2 Publisher of the list of spare parts The publishers designation of the list of spare parts shall be stated clearly and unequivocally e.g. postal address). 7.1.3 Dateof issue The date of issue of the list of spare par

In addition, the completeness of the list of spare parts must be easily ascertainable. 7.2 Minimum data relating to

、 reference object The list of spare parts shall contain the following manu- facturers or suppliers data: 7.2.1 Designation, type and size designation The designation, and, if possible, the type and size desig- nation of the reference object shall be stated, it being understood that the reference obj

、ect in accordance with Section 4.2.1 may encompass several complete products in some cases. These data must coincide with the corresponding data on the product itself (e.g. on the manufacturers name plate, type plate or rating plate). If the reference object is a group, the relationship between this

、 group and the product must be apparent from the product spare parts list. 7.2.2 Identification number of reference object The identification number of the reference object shall be stated. In addition to identifying the reference object, this number can be used to identify the list of spare parts (

、see Section 7.1 .i). The quoting of an identification number is not an essential requirement in the case of consumer durables, if the data in accordance with Section 7.2.1 provide an adequate and clearcut means of identification. 7.3 Minimum data relating to spare part in the text portion The text p

、ortion of the list of spare parts shall contain the following manufacturers or suppliers data in respect of each spare part: 7.3.1 Item number The number by which the relevant spare part is identified on the illustration portion forming part of the list of spare parts shall be stated. In the case of

、 spare parts which are not identified in the illustration portion, Section 7.4.1 shall apply. If the identification numkr in accordance with Section 7.3.5 is used as the item number, then it need only be entered in the column “identification number“. 7.3.2 Quantity and unit For each item number, the

、 quantity of parts and the unit relating to the said quantity shall be entered (e.9. number off, m, kg). If a given unit (e.g. number off) figures preponderantly in the parts list, the manu- facturer or supplier may feature this in appropriate fashion in the list of spare parts. If the listing of sp

This should preferably not exceed 18 characters, according to DIN 820 Part 2. If standardized designations exist, these

、 should be used. If the list isdrawn up in several languages, the designation can be written on several lines. 7.3.4 Code designation for standardized parts In the case of parts which are unequivocally specified by a Standard, the code designation for the part laid down in the relevant Standard shal

If the code designation is used as identification number in accordance with Section 7.3.5, it need only be entered in the column “identification number“. 7.3.5 Identification number The identification number of the spare part shall be entered. This number also serves simultaneously as

、order number in correspondence between user and manufac- turer or supplier. N o te : The identification number should be as brief as possible. The identification number may be used as item number (seesection 7.3.1). 8 Additional data A list

、 of spare parts may, particularly in the case of capital goods, contain additional data relating to the manufacturer or supplier and/or to the user, for the purpose of a more detailed description. 8.1 Manufacturers or suppliers data 8.1.1 Characteristic data A list of spare parts may contain, apart

、from the desig nation and identification number, additional data provided by the manufacturer or supplier, for the pur- pose of a more detailed description of the spare parts or of their application, and which relates either to the item itself or to its use, e.g. Trade designations, Performance data

、, Main dimensions, Installation dimensions, Material of construction (as far as this can be specified for reasons of competition and of guarantee). Such data can be provided by the manufacturer or supplier on his own initiative, or by mutual agreement between the user and the manufacturer or supplie

、r. 8.1.2 Designation of parts purchased outside In the case of spare parts purchased outside, the name of the manufacturer of same, and his designation and identification number of the part concerned can be provided by the supplier himself, or can be mutually agreed between the user and the manufact

、urer or supplie;, in so far as the guarantee permits this. These data concerning the manufacturer shall be clearly separated from the identification number in accordance with Section 7.3.5. 8.2 Users data A list of spare parts may contain additional users data for every spare part, which may relate

、to operational conditions or to the product itself, e.g. Quantity ordered and unit of order Store number or Users identification number The space required for such additional information shall, if necessary, be mutually agreed with the manu- facturer or supplier, e.g. by using a form in accordance w

、ith Part 2 of this Standard. Explanations Lists of spare parts represent and aid for the procure- ment of spare parts, particularly in the case of users for whom the tying up of capital in stocks of spare parts represents an appreciable cost burden. In order to be able to reduce the stockpiling of s

、pare parts to the indispensable minimum required, the user needs relevant information from the manufacturer or supplier. In addition, lists of spare parts represent an aid for the maintenance and repair of technical objects and equip- ment. The reference in Section 1 “Scope“ to “main- tenance firms“

、 in this context also encompasses the workshops and departments within large organizations which are responsible for maintenance and repairs. This Standard lays down the details required by the user to enable him to make use of the list of spare parts as an aid in the way described above. Account is

、 taken of the necessity to present the information in such a way that it is tailored to the value of the reference object and of its use according to the purpose for which it was intended, particularly in the case of consumerdurables which merit repair. In the case of the consumer durables which mer

、it repair, it cannot be excluded that, e.g. for technical safety reasons, the details relating to spare parts and to repairs must be restricted to a few refer- ences in the direction-for-use manual destined for the end user. Apart from the above restriction, it is absolutely essen- tial that all the

、 spare parts should be identified and adequately described. In particular cases, further infor- mation may be required from the manufacturer or supplier, which relate less to the purchase order data than to organizational data. As data of this nature are governed by the differing organizational stru

、ctures of the individual users and also of the manufacturers or suppliers, they cannot be prescribed in mandatory form on a general basis, but must in each particular instance Page 4 DIN 24 420 Part 1 be left subject to a mutual agreement between manu- facturer or supplier and user. Some typical exa

、mples of additional information will be found in Section 8 “Additional data“. Furthermore, Section 3 “Application of lists of spare parts“ and Section 6 “Extent“ both contain references to the effect that the supply of lists of spare parts and their extent require mutual agreement between the manufa

、cturer or supplier and the user. The “List of selected spare parts“ (Section 6.2) can for instance be restricted by the manufacturer or supplier to those components which are in practice often subject to wear, damage or loss, and which the user (end user) is capable of replacing himself. By the provision of suitable agree- ments, the applicability of the generally valid standard can be extended to special cases. The clear identification of spare parts by the manufac- turer or supplier is absolutely essential for procurement reasons. Therefore the identification numbers la
