The specimens shall be representative of the material used in practice. A “Brandschacht test is deemed an individual test of one test piece. 4 Specimen prepara

、tion 4.1 General Since the fire behaviour of a material is influenced by the conditions under which it is used, these conditions are to be taken into account during testing (see DIN 4102-1:1998-05, 1.2). If a building material is intended solely for a precisely defined purpose, this shall be conside

、red in the test as long as the application complies with good building practice and the client ensures that the restriction of the application is known to the user. 4.2 Colour variations If during an initial test of a product only one colour of the product is tested, then only this colour shall be i

、ncluded in the evaluation. The inclusion of other colours requires further testing in accordance with the information given below. Where a product is available in several different colours, and where these are all to be included in the evaluation from the beginning, then the material shall be tested

、 in the following colours: white (or the lightest colour available), red (or the colour closest to red) and black (or the darkest colour available). If the results are positive, then the results apply to all colours. At least one test each shall be carried out on material in the three colours named

、above. This scope of testing is sufficient under the following conditions: The difference between the three means of measured residual lengths shall be no greater than 5 cm, and the difference between the three mean flue gas temperatures shall be no greater than 10 K. In all other cases, a complete

、test shall be carried out on the material with the least favourable result. 4.3 Finishes (paints, coatings, wallcoverings, etc.) Where materials are provided with a finish at works, they are to be tested along with this finish; however, any protective film or sheeting is to be removed. If it is comm

、on practice to coat or cover a material after it has left the works, then such finishes are also to be tested with the material. The amount and/or thickness of the finish shall be as commonly found in practice. If possible, the finish tested shall be representative of other similar materials in term

、s of fire behaviour. DIN 4102-16:2015-09 8 4.4 Adjacent materials The influence of adjacent materials on the fire behaviour of the material under test shall be taken into account in the test. This applies to composite materials assembled at works and to those which are commonly used together with ot

、her materials. The interaction of adjacent materials may be disregarded where there will only be localized contact between them (e.g. tarpaulin fixed to scaffolding) and where flat materials are more than 40 mm apart from each other. This does not apply to back-ventilated cladding (see 7.4). Testing

、 of adjacent materials may also be dispensed with if the specimen does not burn through, char, melt or become discoloured on the back when subjected to the Brandschacht test. If specimens of materials of class DIN 4102-A1 and DIN 4102-A2 burn through, char, melt or become discoloured on the back, pr
