Amendments This standard differs from DIN 488-1:1984-09 as follows: a) Steel grades BSt 420 S (1.0428) and BSt 500 M (1.0466) have been deleted. b) Steel grade BSt 500 S (1.0438) has been renamed as B500A (1.0

、438). c) Steel grade B500B (1.0439) has been included with more stringent ductility requirements. d) The elongation after fracture requirements A10have been replaced by percentage total elongation at maximum force Agt. e) The requirements relating to fatigue strength and deviation from the cross-sec

、tional area have been amended. f) A maximum carbon equivalent value has been specified for proof of weldability, and data on suitable welding processes have been deleted. g) A maximum value has been included for the percentage by mass of copper. h) The nominal diameter range has been extended up to

、40,0 mm for reinforcing steel bars and up to 14,0 mm for welded fabric. i) Marking of steel grades by different numbers of ribs is now included. j) Reinforcing steel coils and decoiled products have been included. k) Lattice girders have been included. l) Strength characteristics have been calculate

、d with nominal cross-sectional area. m) The ratio Re,act/Re,nomhas been included. n) The standard has been editorially revised. Previous editions DIN 488: 1923-07, 1932-05, 1939-03 DIN 488-1: 1972-04, 1984-09 3 DIN 488-1:2009-08 Introduction The following developments have made it necessary to publi

、sh a new edition of DIN 488-1: The German design standard on reinforced concrete construction (DIN 1045-1) requires a new definition of reinforcing steel properties, particularly of ductility; this also applies to the European Standard on reinforced concrete. It was decided that all the delivery for

、ms of reinforcing steel should be included in one standard, where possible. Reinforcing steels are special steels with properties specifically intended to be used as reinforcement for concrete. Compared to previous practice, greater proof of ductility is now required to be provided for reinforcing s

、teels. This is defined by the yield strength ratio and the percentage total elongation at maximum force, the latter replacing elongation after fracture, which has been used hitherto. All the previously used properties for reinforcing steels such as the following have been retained: yield strength; b

、end performance; bond; fatigue strength; weldability; shear force of welded joints in welded fabrics. Two ductility classes have been formed on the basis of the ductility values: A: Rm/Re 1,05, Agt 2,5 %; B: Rm/Re 1,08, Agt 5,0 %. The yield strength required for design purposes is uniformly 500 MPa,

、 the other properties are, to a certain extent, diameter-dependent. The standard covers two steel grades offered in many different delivery forms, i.e. as straight bars (reinforcing steel bars), reinforcing steel coil, mechanically straightened, straight or bent bars, stirrups, hooks or loops (decoi

、led products), welded fabric, lattice girders and reinforcing steel with plain or indented surface (reinforcing wire). Reinforcing wire can also be used for lattice girders. Welded fabric and lattice girders can be assembled from different steel grades. In lattice girders, sheet metal profiles can a

、lso be used as the upper chord. 4 DIN 488-1:2009-08 1 Scope This standard applies to weldable ribbed, indented and plain steel grades and product forms described in clause 6 and Table 2 for the reinforcement of concrete. NOTE Reinforcing steel can be produced as reinforcing steel bars and reinforcin

、g steel coils. Reinforcing steel is either used directly (as reinforcing steel bars) or decoiled (as reinforcing steels mechanically processed into coils) or is subsequently processed into welded fabric and lattice girders. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable
