On the upper surface of the specimen and at a point directly above the edge of the support, brush the specimen with the test fluid (maintained at (23 12) “C

、) ten times, with an interval of one second between each wipe; wet the brush before each wipe. (60 15) seconds after the last brushing, wipe off the specimen with filter paper, a lint-free cloth or a cotton pad. Still applying the load, immediately check the specimen for the surface changes listed i

、n clause 9. In the case of anisotropic specimens, testing shall be in the most sensitive direction. For specimens with different surfaces, both surfaces shall be tested. 9 Evaluation Visually compare specimen surfaces with untreated specimens or with the portion of the test specimen that has not bee

Examine the surface for the following effects, disregarding any changes resulting from the cut faces: a) change in colour (include type of change, e.g. even or uneven); b) change in transparency; c) change in appearance (glossy or frosted); d) crazing (micro-cracks) or d

、iscontinuities; e) bubbles, blisters, etc.; f) stickiness of the surface; g) delamination, change in form; h) partial dissolution. 10 Test report The test report shall refer to this standard and include the following information: type of glazing tested (designation, design, if necessary); method of

、manufacturing specimen or sampling method; specimen dimensions, if other than 180 mm x 25 mm; appearance of specimens; number of specimens; test method used; test fluid(s) used; test force used (method B only); any changes to the surface observed. Page 5 DIN 52289 : 1998-09 Explanatory notes Plastic

、s used as safety glazing in road vehicles can come into short-term contact with cleaning fluids, solvents and motor fuels. A fluid can produce several effects on a plastic, including the leaching of any components of the plastic that are soluble in that fluid, or a chemical reaction that normally al

、ters the properties of the plastic considerably. Since glazing for road vehicles is installed under both high and low stress, it must be tested in both conditions. For this reason, two methods have been specified in this standard, one on unloaded specimens and one on specimens subjected to bending w

、hile loaded. Comparisons between different plastics on the basis of the results of these tests are only permitted when the dimensions (especially the thickness) are similar and the physical condition of both plastics (appearance, residual stress, etc.) are nearly alike. When the test fluids specifie

、d in clause 6 are used, methods A and B as specified in this standard meet the conditions for testing the resistance of rigid and soft plastics to chemicals as given in subclauses 3.6.8.5.1 and 3.7.8.5.1 of No. 29 of the Technische Anforderungen an Fahrzeugteile beider Bauartprfung nach 9 22a StVZO.

、 Testing with the fluids specified in subclauses 6.5 to 6.9 of this standard using method A meets the conditions for testing the chemical resistance of glass-plastics safety glazing materials (with the plastics surface facing outwards when installed) and of plastics-coated safety glazing specified i

、n the third revision of ECE Regulation No. 43. However, this regulation does not specify tolerances for specimen dimensions and the immersion time. Method B is similar to the method specified in DIN EN 21 55-19 for determining craze resistance of transparent materials used as glazing in the aerospac

、e industry. In the case of homogeneous and isotropic materials, results of testing as in subclause 8.3 of this standard can be compared to other chemical resistance or crazing test results when the test force, F, in equation (1) is used to determine an outer fibre stress value. The maximum stress of

、 outer fibres coming into contact with chemicals will be 6,9 MPa, assuming that the chemicals used do not excessively lower the elastic modulus of the fibres (as a result of swelling), and that the deflection effected by force F does not exceed 1 O mm. If crazing occurs during testing as in this sta

、ndard, then the maximum flexural stress resisted by the material can be derived from the following equation: where a is the distance, in mm, between the loading point and the furthest craze. This parameter can be used as an additional criterion when assessing the specimens susceptibility to crazing, supplementing the informa- tion gained from test results as in subclause 8.3.
