12、he flexural rigidity on thebasis of the overhanging length. The method does not apply to nonwovens, which are covered byDIN EN ISO 9073-7, or to specimens of products that tend to bend, curl or roll over at cut edges or have a veryhigh or very low flexural rigidity.2 Normative referencesThis standar

18、eading edge just touches an imaginary plane bounded by two lines (designatedby lo).3.2 Cantilever bending force per unit lengthThe ratio of the mass of the specimen, m, to its length, l, multiplied by the acceleration due to gravity, gn(designated by F1).3.3 Flexural rigidityA measure of the resista

20、 metal slide on the horizontal platform having a scale with divisions enabling the overhanging lengthof the specimen to be read to an accuracy of 0,5 mm. The slide shall have a minimum length of 250 mm, awidth of (25 t 1) mm, a mass of 10 g per 10 mm and a constant cross section over its length.NOTE
21、: The cross section of the slide shall be such that the scale can be read largely without parallax (e.g.as a result of having bevelled reading edges or a triangular cross section).The lower side of the slide shall be provided with a non-slip layer (e.g. made of rubber) so that the specimen,which is
22、to be placed between the slide and platform during the test, can be moved forward uniformly withoutslippage when the slide is advanced. If sticking occurs between the specimen and the platform when theslide is moved, this can be prevented by lightly sprinkling the platform with talcum.c) Two transpa
23、rent side pieces with two inscribed sighting lines, L1and L2, inclined at 41 30q to thehorizontal and intercepting the front of the platform.Optionally a mirror mounted on one side in which the two lines, L1and L2, can be observed to facilitate theiralignment. The edge of the mirror shall be below t
24、he lines L1and L2on one of the transparent sides, parallelto the lines and inclined at 45 to them.It is advisable to fit a guide along which the slide can be moved without the overhanging end of the specimentouching the sides.4.2 Means of measuring length, capable of measuring the length and width o
25、f a specimen to an accuracyof 0,5 mm. The slide of the flexometer may be used for this purpose.4.3 Balance, capable of weighing to an accuracy of 50 mg.4.4 Stopwatch, capable of being read to an accuracy of 0,1 s.5 Samples and specimens5.1 Sampling and conditioning5.1.1 Products as in DIN 16922Sampl

27、f specimensTen specimens 25 mm wide and 250 mm long shall be taken from the sample parallel to the machine directionand an equal number of specimens in the cross-machine direction.6 Procedure6.1 Carry out the test in standard atmosphere (see clause 5).6.2 Determine the length and width of the specim
28、en to an accuracy of 0,5 mm and the mass to an accuracyof 0,1 %.6.3 Position the specimen between the slide and platform so that the three leading edges are precisely aboveone another.NOTE: If the zero mark on the slide does not coincide with its leading edge, position it above the leading edgeof th
29、e specimen and the platform.Move the slide forward within 10 s until the leading edge of the specimen moving with it touches an imaginaryplane between L1and L2. If the leading edge of the specimen twists or bulges, its centre shall be regarded asthe leading edge. Read the overhanging length to an ac

34、ngle values obtained as in subclauses 7.1 and 7.2.7.4 Where applicable, evaluate the test results statistically as specified in DIN 53598-1 and DIN 53804-1.NOTE: Experience has shown that there are fairly large variations in the manufacturing machine direction (e.g.the warp) and in the cross-machine
35、 direction (e.g. the weft) within individual samples of textile fabrics andfrom sample to sample.This shall be allowed for in calculating the confidence interval, particularly in arbitration cases, to avoid arrivingat incorrect conclusions.Details relating to sampling and evaluation are to be found

38、on as specified in subclause 7.4;h) any deviation from this standard;i) date of testing.Explanatory notesThis standard has been harmonized with DIN EN ISO 9073-7 by including the flexural rigidity per unit width.Other methods of determining the flexural rigidity of plastic film and coated textile fabrics, such as the Schlenkermethod, are described in DIN 53350 and DIN 53864.
