、ons in mm 1 Scope and field of application This standard specifies welded chain slings with hook or ring type terminal fittings, and their components. Since, under constant load conditions, the stress in the sling branches increases as a function of both temperature and the angle to the vertical, it
、 is imperative that attention be paid to the specifications given in DIN 685 Part 5. It is recommended that, when the choke hitch is applied, the working load should not exceed 80% of the values of working load limit given in table 5. 2 Construction of chain slings, dimensions, designation The illus

Amendments The following amendments have been made to the September 1959 edition. a) Three-branch and four-branch
、chain slings with hook or ring have been included. b) The chain sizes given in DIN 32 891 (which supersedes part of DIN 766) have been adopted. c) 45 mm have been specified as the maximum size of chain slings. d) The pear-shaped form of master links and intermediate links has been changed to a paral
、lel-sided form. e) For multi-branch slings, the working load limit has been specified as a function of the angle to the vertical; the branch angle (angle of inclination) has been omitted. f) Reduced working load limits have been specified for those cases where the choke hitch is applied, asymmetric
、loading is likely and extreme operating temperatures are to be expected. g) Specifications for testing and marking have been included. h) Form and content of the standard have been revised. Explanatory notes The revision of DIN 766 on non-calibrated grade 2 chains with a pitch of 3d, which supersede
、s part of DIN 32891, prompted the revision of this standard. In addition to editorial amendments, the number of sling sizes has been reduced from 19 to 13. Since these slings have lower working load limits in comparison with grade 5 and grade 8 slings, master links, joining links and intermediate li
、nks of smaller size have been specified. Care has been taken to select the nominal sizesfor these links from the series of sling sizes in order to reduce production costs. If required, slings as specified in this standard may also be supplied with master links of larger nominal size as specified in
、DIN 5688 Parts 1 and 3, which shall be agreed at the time of ordering. The rating of working load limits for multi-branch chain slings and the method of testing the branches in sections have been adopted, and merely some values of working load limit have been amended in accordance with the series of
、 preferred numbers. Identification marking of chain slings by meansof round tags and the specification of the working load limit as a function of the angle to the vertical up to 45O and up to 60 have been included for the first time. This standard includes safety requirements in clause 6 where the ratio of stress at working load to proof force to minimum breaking force has been specified and it has been specified that chain slings are to be inspected after production.
