It supersedes DIN 8140-2:1988-10 from which it dif

Previous editions DIN 8140-2: 1988-10 DIN 8140-2:2005-08 4 1 Scope This standard specifies limits of size and tolerances for tapped holes receiving wire thread inserts (“thread inserts”, for short) designed to provide 2 mm to 52 mm diameter internal threads (coarse and fine pitch screw thre
8、ads) having a basic profile as specified in DIN ISO 68-1. Thread inserts as specified in DIN 8140-1 provide tolerance class 6H limits for internal threads as in DIN ISO 965-1. 2 Normative references The following reference documents are indispensable for the application of this document. 16、ve been specified for the pitch diameter of the tapped hole to allow for any deviations occurring when fitting the thread insert. It shall be ensured that the thread of the assembly is produced to tolerance class 6H; for this reason, the same tolerance symbol shall be assigned to the thread of the t
17、apped hole as to that of the assembly, in the latter case “mod” (denoting “modified tolerance”) being placed after the tolerance symbol. 19、le shall be provided with an electroplated coating. For tapped holes produced to have a minimum pitch diameter, the coating thickness may be up to 1/4 of the fundamental deviation. At no point shall the dimensions of threads produced by electroplating (including phosphating) be less than the maximum
20、 material limits for position H (as given by the GO gauges at the wear limits). 6 Designation The tolerances shall be given in the designation as specified in DIN ISO 965-1 for ISO metric screw threads. Example of designation for the thread of a bright tapped hole: Thread DIN 8140 EG M20 2 Term DIN

Thread inserts for fine pitch threads exceeding size M39 3 are not customary. 7.3 Coarse pitch and fine pitch thread tapped holes produced to tolerance class 6G mod Tolerance class 6G mod shall be used where the tapped hole is to be provided with an electroplated coating. It refers to th
42、e tapped hole in the condition before electroplating (see also footnote a in Table 1). The specifications of Tables 2 to 5 are based on the lower deviations, EI, of tolerance position G as specified in DIN ISO 965-1. The limits of size applicable to the thread before coating shall be calculated from the diameter values given in Table 2 or 3 of this standard, adding EI of tolerance position G. After coating, the diameter shall reach at least the values specified in Table 2 or 3.
