Basketball equipment as specified in this standard falls within the scope of the Gerte- und Produktsicherheits-gesetz. Once compliance with the safety requirements specified therein has been verified by an

The DIN Standard corresponding to the International Standard referred to in clause 2 of the EN is as follows: ISO 2062 DIN EN ISO 2062 Amendments This standard differs from DIN EN 1270:2000-12 as follows: a) Th

、e standard has been editorially revised from the European perspective. b) A new figure Ring mounting plate has been included as Figure 10, and Figure A.3 has been deleted. c) Subsequent figures have been renumbered as a result of introducing Figure 10. d) A choice-table for basketball equipment has

、been included as Annex B. e) Ball-throwing practice equipment has been excluded from the scope and its use is explained in a note. f) Information and a warning concerning ball-throwing practice equipment have been included in a national annex. Compared with DIN EN 1270:2006-01, corrections have been

、 made to the German version only (corrected pagination) and therefore do not affect the English text. Previous editions DIN EN 1270: 1998-02, 2000-12, 2006-01 DIN EN 1270:2008-10 3 National Annex NA (informative) Ball-throwing practice equipment is not a basketball court There has been a recent incr

、ease in the number of accidents involving basketball equipment. The media, and television in particular, are keen to show matches with spectacular situations involving players hanging from the basket alter a successful dunking. In general, the basketball equipment provided in sports facilities is no

、t designed to take additional loads, and can be damaged or destroyed through misuse. Ball-throwing practice equipment with small target boards constitute a particular risk. There is little space behind them (classes D and E as in DIN EN 1270 and DIN 7899 require 50 cm and 60 cm distance to the wall,

、 respectively). If the basket or part of the board becomes detached, it will hit the player, who has no opportunity to move behind the board to which the basket was attached. According to a judgement issued by the Higher Regional Court (OLG) in Hamm on 18.2.2003, owners of sports facilities are obli

、ged to take precautions to prevent players from hanging from the basket, and risking damage and injury. One option could be a warning sign. Consideration of the necessary safety precautions has sparked a number of ideas from the Sports Equipment Standards Committee at DIN, German Institute for Stand

、ardization. Their discussions tended towards distinguishing between basketball courts and ball-throwing practice equipment. Whereas basketball facilities should be able to withstand every match situation without damage, ball-throwing practice equipment is designed for shooting practice. The Standard

、s Committee recommends that the following measures be taken to ensure safety and prevent accidents: Identify ball-throwing practice equipment (where the space behind the board is less than 1,65 m) using an image and words (see below). The sign shall be attached by the contractor in the case of new f

、acilities, and by the owner in the case of existing facilities, or in the course of annual inspection or maintenance. In new facilities, pieces of ball-throwing practice equipment shall not be installed opposite each other, in order to prevent match situations developing. Court markings encourage ma

、tch situations (practice or competitive) and should not be used. In existing facilities, in addition to appropriate signs, users shall be instructed in how to avoid misuse of ball-throwing practice equipment.
