National foreword This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 192 “Fire service equipment” (Secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom), Working Group WG 3 “Firefighting and rescue service vehicles” (Secretariat: UNM, France). The responsible German body i
5、nvolved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Feuerwehrwesen (Firefighting and Fire Protection Standards Committee), Working Committee NA 031-04-06 AA Allgemeine Anforderungen an Feuerwehrfahrzeuge Lschfahrzeuge SpA zu CEN/TC 192/WG 3. This part of the DIN EN 1846 series establishes classes and
6、 defines categories on the basis of the use and mass of the vehicles. Furthermore, it defines vehicle types and lays down a designation system in which each vehicle is characterized according to its main features, indicated by a series of numbers and letters this system can be used for tendering pro
7、cedures within Europe. The designation system gives the various criteria used for characterizing the vehicles. The mass class limits and vehicle categories, particularly, form the basis of the specific safety and performance requirements in Part 2 of DIN EN 1846. DIN EN 1846 consists of three parts
8、under the general title Firefighting and rescue service vehicles: Part 1: Nomenclature and designation Part 2: Common requirements Safety and performance Part 3: Permanently installed equipment Safety and performance Amendments This standard differs from DIN EN 1846-1:1998-02 as follows: a) Clause 2
9、 “Terms and definitions” has been revised and subdivided into two groups, and specific definitions which correspond to the previous subclauses 6.1 to 6.9 have been added with editorial modifications; b) the term “motor vehicle mass class” has been changed to “mass class”; c) the term “demountable” h
10、as been deleted and the definition of the term “hydraulic platform” has been aligned with DIN EN 1777; d) mass class L (light) begins with a gross laden mass from 3 t upwards; e) mass class M (medium) ends with a gross laden mass of 16 t; f) mass class S (super) begins with a gross laden mass from 1
11、6 t upwards; g) for category 2 (rural), a distinction has been made between vehicles with limited off-road capabilities and those with more off-road capabilities, and information on the type of drive has been given for all categories; h) all normative references are now listed in a Bibliography; i)
12、the reference to ISO 3883:1977 has been deleted; j) the vehicle designation has been simplified; k) the standard has been editorially revised. It also identifies the main characteristics of any motor vehicle by a serial number and letter as defined in the following clauses whi

DIN EN 1846-1:2011-07 EN 1846-1:2011 (E) 5 1 Scope This European Standard establishes classes and defines categories which are functions of the use and mass of the firefighting and rescue service vehicles and provides a designation system that g
29、ives the various criteria used for characterizing the vehicles. 2 Terms and definitions 2.1 General definitions For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply NOTE For the purposes of EN 1846 series, the following definitions apply. Other specific definitions exist in t
30、he other parts of EN 1846. 2.1.1 motor vehicle power-driven road vehicle which has four or more wheels, which is not rail borne, and which is normally used for carrying persons and/or equipment, towing vehicles used for the carriage of persons and/or equipment, special service 2.1.2 appliance covere
31、d motor vehicle designed for carrying personnel and equipment 2.1.3 fire appliance appliance used for firefighting and/or rescue 2.1.4 trailer non-power-driven road vehicle which, on account of its design and appointments is used to transport persons or equipment and is intended to be towed by a mot

40、ight (L) : 3 t 16 t. 4 Categories All motor vehicles are classified according to one of the following three categories depending on their road or off road capabilities: category 1 : Urban Motor vehicle normally used on constructed road surfaces. NOTE 1 Commonly category 1 vehicles have one axle driv
41、en. category 2 : Rural Motor vehicle capable of traversing all road and limited off road surfaces. NOTE 2 A distinction can be made between vehicles which commonly have all axles driven: with limited off road capabilities, with more off road capabilities, usually achieved by the provision of e.g. di
42、fferential locking and single tyres. category 3 : All terrain Motor vehicle capable of traversing all road and cross-country. NOTE 3 Commonly category 3 vehicles have all axles driven with differential locking and single tyres. 5 Types of vehicles Depending on their main application, fire appliances
