Through the in
4、corporation of Amendment A1:2007 into DIN EN 3-7:2004-04 the standard now includes specifications regarding Class F fire extinguishers (for use on cooking oil and fat fires) and polar solvents. The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Feuerwehrwesen (Firefighti
5、ng and Fire Protection Standards Committee), Technical Committee NA 031-01 FBR Handbettigte Gerte fr die Brandbekmpfung. The German edition of this European Standard includes a normative National Annex dealing with the testing of Class D fire extinguishers, the use of which is still permitted in Ger
6、many. Until May 1997, DIN EN 3-5 one of the standards replaced by the present document contained a National Annex specifying a standard test fire and pictogram for Class D extinguishers. The June 1997 edition of DIN EN 3-5 (“German version EN 3-5:1996 +AC:1997”) did not contain this National Annex.
7、Because there is a need for a standard test fire for testing Class D extinguishers in Germany, NA 031-01 FBR Handbettigte Gerte fr die Brandbekmpfung decided to reinstate the National Annex in the present standard. The Scope of this standard (Clause 1) states that because it is not possible to defin
8、e a representative standard test fire, the efficiency of extinguishers on Class D fires is to be established on a case-by-case basis. National Annex NA of this standard provides a means of doing this. Clause 17 “Maintenance” refers to national regulations. DIN 14406-4 is the national regulation deal
9、ing with the maintenance of portable fire extinguishers in Germany. How to use this consolidated version of DIN EN 3-7: Text added or modified by Amendment A1:2007 is indicated by and . 15、re permitted. NA.2 Fire extinguishers to be approved for use on Class D fires shall be subjected to the following suitability test: Tests shall be carried out in a hall (see Annex I). When extinguishing the two test fires described below a) and b) the suitability of the extinguisher for aluminium an
16、d magnesium, including their alloys, and for sodium and potassium shall be demonstrated. The suitability (fire performance) of the extinguisher for other metals shall be demonstrated separately. The following two test fires shall be extinguished with the same charge: a) Fill a tray made of 2 mm thic
17、k sheet steel and having a 50 cm 50 cm base and 10 cm high sides loosely and evenly with 3 kg of light metal alloy swarf having a magnesium content of 83 % to 88 %. Then, ignite two adjacent sides of the tray. The pre-test burn time shall be such that about half of the swarf is burned before the tes
18、t commences. The distance required during extinguishing is not specified. For the test to be deemed successful, the fire shall have been completely extinguished and there shall be evidence of unburned swarf, determined by opening the tray 10 minutes after the fire has been extinguished, starting fro
19、m the corners to the centre. b) Fill a tray as described in a) with 3 kg of sodium, place a container of petrol beneath the tray and heat the latter until the liquefied sodium self-ignites. The distance required during extinguishing is not specified. For the test to be deemed successful, the fire sh
20、all have been completely extinguished and there shall be evidence of unburned sodium, determined by opening the tray 10 minutes after the fire has been extinguished, starting from the corners to the centre. Part 2 of the marking for Class D fire extinguishers shall be as specified in 16.2 and contai
21、n the pictogram shown below. For extinguishers with a charge 6 kg the pictogram shall appear in a square box with a side length of at least 30 mm. Reference to the suitability of an extinguisher for use on gaseous fires (class C fires) are at the manufacturers discretion, but
47、 are applied only to powder type extinguishers which have gained a class B or class A and class B rating. Suitability of extinguishers for use on class D fires (fires involving flammable metals) is outside the scope of this standard in respect of test fires. However, extinguishers claiming class D s
48、uitability are covered in all other respects by the requirements in this standard for powder extinguishers. !It is considered hazardous for powder and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers to be used on Class F fires. For this reason powder and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are excluded for conforma
49、nce with regard to Class F in this European Standard.“ NOTE The extinction of a metal fire presents a situation so specific (in terms of the metal itself, its form, the configuration of the fire etc.) that it is not possible to define a representative standard fire for the purposes of testing.
